Obituary published on Legacy.com by Evans Funeral Home - Columbus on Jan. 20, 2026.
Born in 1935, Amy grew up in a multi-cultural neighborhood in
San Diego, CA, and attended San Diego High School. The oldest daughter of Benjamin and Pearl Scott, sister to Margaret, she grew into one of the kindest and open-minded people we've ever known. While in San Diego, Amy was involved in the USO, where she met and soon married Leo Strapp, a Navy man. She converted to Catholicism and married Leo in 1955. They promptly moved to Columbus, Ohio, where they raised 6 beautiful children and celebrated 55 years of marriage together.
Amy's early married life was busily spent making home a warm and welcoming environment and building lifelong friendships with friends from Elderwood Ave. While she held many jobs and made wonderful friends over the years, her long-time work at So-Fro Fabrics brought her the greatest satisfaction. A talented and creative seamstress, Amy reveled in making adorable outfits for her kids, many of which were the envy of their friends. Years spent with other creatives freed her artistic spirit, and she became involved in crafting, jewelry making, painting, and other hobbies.
She was an avid reader, and the Strapp home was filled with books of all kinds; this ensured that many of her children adopted her passion for stories; she never stopped reading. Leo and Amy both shared a love of traveling and genealogy, and road trips often led to exciting discoveries about their family history. Some of her most enjoyable memories were of their travel adventures across the US. With her curious mind, deep knowledge, and enviable attention to detail, she created and led a very active genealogy group in their retirement community in Florida.
Amy used to say home was like "Grand Central Station" - so many people in and out, always open, bustling with family, friends, and lots of energy. And she loved every minute of it! Family was at the heart of everything that Amy lived for. Her great love for Leo and their 6 children filled her heart. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Leo, son Brian, and daughter Laurianne. Survived by her sister Margaret, her children, Cynthia Mathis, Karen Napper, Patty Ramsey, and Kenneth Strapp; her grandchildren, Austin Mathis and Cole Mathis, Jacob Napper and Jamie Marburger, Adam Rieser and Alyssa Reiser, and Shawn Ramsey and Dylan Beall. Her large and loving family includes 16 great-grandchildren. She is already missed, but we will all, always, treasure Amy's kind and generous spirit.
In place of flowers, memorial donations to benefit The American Lung Association are greatly appreciated and truly touch our hearts.
