Lloyd Stufft Obituary

Lloyd Stufft, 97, of Birmingham, AL, and formerly of New Kensington, passed away peacefully on Oct. 26, 2024. He was born May 6, 1927, and had just moved to Alabama in March to live with his daughter. Mr. Stufft was a metal fabricator and sheet metal worker for Meyer-Johnson for 60 years. Mr. was a tireless volunteer and patriot who made it his personal mission to honor deceased veterans buried in the Alle-Kiski Valley. Growing up in rural Somerset County, Mr. Stufft joined the Army and served during World War II. He was deeply affected by what he saw. While stationed in France, he spent time burying veterans and maintaining their graves. After joining the American Legion, he continued to care for the graves of the deceased veterans, and for the last 40 to 50 years, he has volunteered as the graves registration office for the Robert L. Davies Post No. 868 of Lower Burrell. He tends to the graves and makes sure each veteran has an American flag and a marker denoting his or her military branch and service. For the 50th Anniversary of World War II, Mr. Stufft put together a color lithograph display of European cemeteries that contain the graves of American service members. This work helped many people find where their loved ones are buried. To honor his service, the PA American Legion presented him the Blue Cap award for Legionnaire of the Year. Surviving are his daughter, Jeneane (William) Black of Trussville, AL; three grandchildren, Robyn Black, Jeff Black, and Marcy Simpson; and five great-grandchildren, Lynlee, Gavin, Violet, Zoey, and William. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death his wife, Jeneane Carter Stufft in 2013; and eight siblings. Viewing will be from 1 to 4 p.m., on Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2024, in ROSS G. WALKER FUNERAL HOME, LTD., 217 Freeport Road, New Kensington, where a service will be held at 11 a.m., on Wednesday, Nov. 13, by Rev. Dean Ward, and where Military Honors will then be immediately accorded by the Vandergrift Veterans Honor Guard. The American Legion will hold a service in the funeral home Tuesday at a time to be announced. Private burial will be in Lakewood Memorial Gardens, Indiana Township.

I´m his great granddaughter Violet. His wife Jeneane was getting older while I was very young and I have fond memories of him taking care of her in her final days. He was a great husband.
