Lois Alberti Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Heald Funeral Home - Saint Albans on Mar. 19, 2026.
Our hearts are heavy as we share the news that Lois Rye Alberti, 82, of St. Albans, Vermont, passed away by natural causes on March 8, 2026. We are deeply saddened by her sudden loss.

Lois was born in Dumont, New Jersey on May 19, 1943, to Svend and Lillian Rye. She grew up side by side with her sisters June and Dolores, and enjoyed a childhood filled with laughter and adventure. That sisterhood, nurtured in their earliest years, became a lifelong source of strength, joy, and comfort.

Lois was a strong, compassionate, and determined woman, and always carried a passion for helping others. This passion led to her career in the nursing field. From 1964-1974, Lois worked at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York, where she earned her nursing credentials while supporting her patients and community through her work. She then moved to Vermont to carry on a long legacy of patient care at the University of Vermont (UVM) Medical Center for another 45 years. Decades of dedication as an RN, BSN, and Nurse Manager.

While working at the UVM Medical Center Lois met her life partner, Lori Wells, in 1992. Lois immediately became a loving member of the Wells family – she was quickly adopted as one of their own and was a pivotal part of the family until her death.

Upon her retirement from nursing, Lois enjoyed family time, trips to Maine with Lori to spend time near the ocean, cooking, entertaining, and gardening (as evidenced by her amazing African Violet collection!). A life well spent doing all of the things that brought her joy.

Lois leaves behind her loving partner of more than three decades, Lori Wells, sisters June Stoll and Dolores Brickman, many nieces and nephews, her extended Wells family, and dog Brady. Lois was preceded in death by her parents, Svend and Lillian Rye, and her mother-in-law, Fern Wells.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to your local humane society.

We will honor and celebrate Lois' life by holding an intimate memorial service for family and close friends at a later date.

Honored to be serving the family of Lois Alberti is Rett Heald of the Heald Funeral Home, where messages of condolence are welcome at www.healdfuneralhome.com.
