Lois Rita Danos Becnel, 91, of Belle Chasse, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her devoted family on Wednesday, May 28, 2025. She was born November 27, 1933, in Cut Off, LA, to the late Duval Danos and Edia Melancon Danos.
She is survived and deeply missed by her loving husband of 73 years, Robert “Bob” Becnel Sr.; her six children, Susan Levasseur (Terry), Linda Becnel (Rai), Bob Becnel Jr., Kathy Pitre (Ellis), Paul Becnel Sr. (Connie), and Lorie Becnel (Mona). Lois was predeceased by her grandson Paul James Becnel Jr. and her siblings, Lou Helen Waggoner and Ronald Danos. Forever cherished by her grandchildren, Terry Levasseur Jr. (Kelly), Jennifer Levasseur (Kevin), Jason Taylor, Jessica Rouquette (Danilo), and Nicole Becnel Darbonne (Spencer); great-grandchildren, Trent Levasseur, Elisabeth Levasseur, Abby Rouquette, Reese Rouquette, Tyler Taylor, and Kane Darbonne; and sister, Joyce Rouchon (Marius).
Lois grew up speaking Cajun French, later using it as a secret code to chat with her beloved mother when she wanted privacy. She completed her formal education at Marrero High School, where she enjoyed playing basketball and volleyball. She met her future husband, Robert “Bob” Becnel, at her after-school job as a waitress at Ruiz Restaurant. Immediately following her graduation, they married with her parents’ blessing. The couple went on to manage the restaurant side by side before relocating to Belle Chasse, where they followed her husband’s family legacy of farming.
She and her husband built a family and worked alongside each other for the entirety of their long, loving marriage. Raising their six children with faith, responsibility, and a sense of self-worth was her greatest priority.
Later in life, it brought her immense joy and a renewed sense of purpose to support teachers and students as a secretary and substitute teacher at Belle Chasse Middle School, where she prided herself on being professional and firm, yet loving.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, June 2, 2025, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Belle Chasse at 11 a.m., with visitation beginning at 8:30 a.m. for the family and 9 a.m. for the community.
