Lois P. Chapman

Lois P. Chapman peacefully left this earth on June 3, 2018 after 96 years. Mom was born on October 21, 1921 in Willimantic, CT to Charles and Lillian Peterson. She married her beloved husband, Waldo, “Jack” Chapman, on April 12, 1947, and they moved to Windsor in May,1951 to raise their family. Mom stayed at home to raise her family, though she always worked part-time to help support her growing family. She was a wonderful mom and a great baker--famous for her $100 cake. She began a full-time career at Aetna Life & Casualty after her children were grown. She retired in 1986; two years after Jack had died. Mom was determined that her retirement would be a great adventure, and so it was. She traveled extensively through the United States and Europe, making new friends over the years. She was thrilled to be named the Senior Queen along with Senior King (and good friend) Anthony Blazis for the 1995 Shad Derby. She was actively involved with the Senior Center, Golden Fellowship, AARP (Secretary), worked at the polls for many years, and delivered “Meals on Wheels” well into her 80’s. In 2012, at 91, she won the grand prize in the “Batter Up” baking contest for her lemon filled cupcakes. Mom and Dad were both part of what is now known as “The Greatest Generation” and their experiences during the depression and World War II shaped their lives. They provided their children with love, but instilled in them the values of integrity, industriousness, independence, and kindness. Mom was predeceased by her parents and step-father, Euclid Pimpare, her husband, Jack, her brother and sister-in-law Robert and Josephine Peterson, and her sons-in-law, Andrew Cayon and Kevin Sexton. She will be missed by her sister, Celeste Hughes of Rochester, NY. She leaves behind her two sons: Robert and his wife Barbara of Manchester, Wayne and his wife Margot of Portland, and three daughters: Laurel Burke and her husband, Peter of Windsor Locks, Elizabeth Sexton of Feeding Hills, MA, and Allison Cayon of Windsor, and Allison’s daughter, Rachel, with whom she shared a special bond. Mom also leaves behind 12 more grandchildren, 24 great grand-children, 3 great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank Carl and Debbie of Delamere Woods, and the many employees of Hartford Healthcare Independence at Home along with their Hospice branch for their kindness and support during this difficult time. Calling hours are from 10 AM until 11 AM, Saturday, June 9, 2018 at the Carmon Poquonock Funeral Home, 1816 Poquonock Avenue, Windsor, CT. A memorial service will immediately follow the calling hours. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
