Lois Clingerman

Lois Stewart Clingerman, a resident of Elkins, WV was born August 16, 1938 in Randolph County, Elkins, WV, and passed away Tuesday, March 10, 2026. Lois was the daughter of the late Arthur W. and Pearl Z. Wingfield Stewart. On March 7, 1959 she was married to John Clingerman who preceded her in death April 29, 2023. They had celebrated 64 years of marriage. She retired from the WV DHHR with 39 years of service. Surviving are one son, Stephen and wife Kathy Clingerman, Morgantown. Two daughters Kimberly Urban and husband, Ryan, Elkins, and Sherri King and husband Danny of Longview, TX. grand- children: Jessica Goude, Ashley Godwin, Jennifer Kisamore, Jonathon Clingerman, Ann George, Samuel Urban, Jared King, Emily Mardian, and Paige Harman. Great-grandchildren: Kaylee and Grayson Godwin, Sydney, Zoe, Judah, and Lyric Goude, Willow, Aubrey, and Carter Kisamore, Elle and Liam Mardian, Joanna George, Abriel Clingerman, Porter and Quinn Harman, and McKenzi King. She is also survived by sister, Helena Liggett, sister-in-law, Jean Barr and husband Richard, and brother-in-law, Richard Peterson along with many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by brother, Arthur (June) Stewart and sister, Shirley Hare, and sisters-in-law, Hattie Arbogast, Constance Joan Payne-Stewart, and Joan Peterson. Brothers-in-law, Birch Hare, Barrett Liggett, and Lawrence Arbogast, grandson Brandon Nicholas, and great-grandson, Micah Ray Clingerman.

Mom never met a stranger having opened her home to many friends, family, and even strangers who were in need. She will be remembered by her infamous Sunday dinners with 16, 18, and even 20 people around her tables. She never said no to inviting someone in. Her grandchildren will most remember the Friday night dinner and sleepovers. Mom and Dad would make a twice-yearly trip to Texas to visit family with mom as the chief navigator. The City of Elkins sanitation workers might remember her as the pepperoni roll and peanut butter fudge lady. Meeting them in the street early Thursday mornings in her bathrobe with treats.

The family would like to express a special and heartfelt thank you to our cousins, Chic and Darlene Scott. From the time our Dad entered the nursing home in Fairmont, they were a constant and caring presence in Mom's life and in all of our – bringing snacks, hot dogs and Pepsi, and always showing up with love and support. After moving back to Elkins, they continued that same devotion by helping care for Mom over the past several years. Living in the "little house" next door, Chic was always there to change batteries and lightbulbs, while Darlene lovingly made sure Mom stayed organized, well fed, and had groceries in the pantry. Their kindness, faithfulness, and generosity will always be remembered with deep gratitude. The family would like to thank the staff of Mountain Memories and WV Caring for the excellent care provided to our mother. Your kindness, compassion, and dedication meant so much to her and to all of us. We are truly grateful. Friends may call from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm Friday, March 13, 2026 at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, March 14, 2026 from the funeral home chapel with Danny King officiating. Interment will follow in the American Legion's Little Arlington Cemetery near Cravensdale. Memorial contributions may be made to Tyrand Cooperative Ministries, Inc., 792 Back Road, Mill Creek, WV 26280 in memory of Mrs. Clingerman.
