Lois Ann Godby Hamm, 96, died on October 22, 2025. She was born on January 1, 1929, in Science Hill to the late Samuel Ramey and Anna Belle Butt Godby. One of ten siblings, love of family was instilled in Lois early in life. In 1949 Lois married Paul Thomas Hamm and continued to build her own family. She was an excellent homemaker, cook and baker of pies. Lois was called on often to prepare a meal for guests with little notice, but she handled it perfectly. She loved to gather her family together during the holidays and birthdays. Lois made sure everyone had a place at the table and felt welcomed, loved, and of course, full. She was active at Lexington Avenue Baptist Church where she was a member for sixty years. She sang in the choir, taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. Lois was a wonderful piano player who played by ear. She continued to play throughout her life. You could tell how the Kentucky Wildcats basketball team was playing by how loudly she stomped her feet.
After starting to work part-time in the Boyle Middle School cafeteria, Lois, who was also known as "Nana", started working in the office and at middle school ball games. She loved meeting her friends at McDonalds and going to yard sales. With her grandson Myles as copilot, she would drive around Danville listening to WDFB Christian Radio. In 2021 Lois lost her son Mike after he had received a double lung transplant in 2013. She was so thankful to the Donate Life organization for the help Mike received.
Lois was predeceased by her husband, Paul Thomas Hamm, son, Michael Farol Hamm, siblings, Melvin (Kathleen) Godby, Lee (Sally) Godby, Ned (Edith) Godby, Joe (Bonnie) Godby, Ray (Joan) Godby, Geneva (Pete) Randall, Kathryn (Maurice) Dungan, and Louise (Gene) Butt.
Lois is survived by her daughters, Melanie Jane Hamm (Joseph) Hafley, and Mary Lois Hamm (JR.) Fields, grandchildren, Michael (Michelle), Jay (Kym), Charlie, David (Sarah), Taylor (Cassidy), Myles, and Journey, great-grandchildren, Ella, Molly, Wilson, Wesley, Emilee (Chris), Jon Thomas, Tyler (Katana), Jase, Presley, Boone, and Ray, great-great-granddaughter, Henley Jane, brother, Coy Eugene (the late Willadean) Godby, daughter-in-law, Beth Wilson Hamm, and her brother Ray's second wife, Marilyn.
The funeral service will be held at 1 pm on Friday, October 31, 2025, at Lexington Avenue Baptist Church. Pastor JR. Fields and Rev. Basil Hall will officiate. Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Michael, Jay, Charlie, David, and Taylor, and great-grandson, Tyler. Her grandson Myles will be an honorary pallbearer. Burial will follow in Science Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 pm to 7 pm on Thursday, October 30, 2025, at Lexington Avenue Baptist Church. Memorial donations may be made to Donate Life Kentucky Trust or to WDFB Christian Radio.
The family would like to thank the staff at Morning Point and Ephraim McDowell Ft. Logan Hospital for their excellent care and hospitality.
