Lois "Jean" Masters, 92 years old of Chapin, South Carolina went home on November 23, 2024. Born July 22, 1932, in Sago, WV, to Grover Cleveland Elbon and Permelia Elizabeth (Simmons) Elbon. Jean was the youngest of 8 children. At 18 years old she left home for Washington, D.C. to work for the FBI. She met her husband, Angus "Ed" Masters, JR. at Glen Echo Park. He was stationed at Ft. McNair Army base where they were married on August 6, 1955. Ed and Jean raised their 3 children in Catonsville, MD and later moved to Taylorsville, MD.
While working in D.C. she picked up the sport of ping pong and was the champion of her boarding house. Throughout her life she enjoyed playing and sharing the sport with others. Jean was most humble, loved being outdoors walking, biking, and riding horses until she could not. Throughout the years she traveled extensively to visit her children and grandchildren. Once she went to Okinawa, Japan and climbed Mt. Fuji with her son. Her many visits to Hawaii gave her a love of the culture including the HULA, the music and the colorful dresses. She also spent time visiting family in Oklahoma, Chicago, and finally settled in Chapin, SC.
Jean is predeceased by her husband and her grandson, Richard "RJ" Law. She is the last of her siblings. Surviving are her children and their spouses, Gary and Yumiko Masters of Oklahoma City, OK, Sharon and Rick Law of Prosperity, SC, and Ronald and Shulamite Masters of Ewa Beach, HI. Her grandchildren and spouses Megan and Jon Glassman, Courtney and Jeremy White, Andrew and Jordan Masters, Kevin Masters, Joseph Masters, and Christian Masters. Also survived by 8 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews in W.Va, Ohio, and Oklahoma who she loved dearly.
The family would like to express deep gratitude to the wonderful staff, excellent care and love given to her at Lexington Medical 7th Floor South Building and the MSA Hospice team.
Jean will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband and close to her grandson at Crest Lawn Memorial Gardens, Marriottsville, MD.
Most importantly was her relationship with Jesus Christ and her love for others. Jean longed to be home with Him and in His presence. Her Chapin Baptist Church family, Pastors and friends meant the world to her. Thank you to everyone there who prayed fervently as she lived out her final days.
