LOIS METSCH Obituary

METSCH, Lois Muriel June 2, 2024 - Lois Muriel Hollinger was born July 16, 1925 in Paul, Idaho. Her early years were spent on the family farm where, in her teens, she learned to be a welder. When the war effort called for women to work, Lois went to Oregon, where she employed her welding skills on battleships at the Kaiser Shipyards for three years. After the war, she followed another dream and went to New York City, where she worked at W&J Sloane, and was given the nickname Holly, since there were two women named Lois. This is also where she met her husband, Jim; they married in 1947. Not one to let grass grow under her feet, she lived in New York City, Connecticut, and upstate New York, while raising three boys, James, Jr., Robert and Peter. Although she was busy with her family, her entrepreneurial nature brought her into real estate, house restoration, and being an owner of various businesses. Additionally, she pursued her talents in the arts being a quite accomplished painter and founder of her cherished Hollycrafts. Also, an avid traveler, she visited all fifty states and many countries around the world. She even found time to pen a number of books along with her memoir. Although not one to embrace the culinary arts, she still relished family meals and never met a lobster she didn't like. Lois embraced adventure and led a full and adventurous life. Upon retiring, the Metschs moved to North Carolina in order to perfect their golf games and have time to enjoy life. From there, they moved to Newbury, New Hampshire next to their son, Peter, and daughter-in-law, Jill, and then finally resided at Sunrise in Lynnfield for the last four years, where she was beloved by the staff and her loving friend, Karol Golock. Although she missed her 99th birthday by mere weeks, Lois passed peacefully surrounded by her family, friends and the incredible care teams at Hospice and Sunrise. Lois leaves a large and amazing family whom she loved with all her heart, her three sons and their families, James and Lucinda Metsch, and their children James, Benjamin, Amanda, Justin and Nathan; Robert and Lizabeth Metsch and their children Christian and Courtney, and Peter and Jill Metsch and their children Peter and Heather; eleven great-grandchildren, and her nieces and nephews on the west coast. There will be a Burial at the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen, New Hampshire, where she will be Interred next to her beloved husband of fifty-nine years. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Lois/Holly, mom, grandma was a force of nature and will be incredibly missed. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the American Heart Association in her name.
