Lois Moore Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Butterfield Home and Chapel Funeral and Cremation Services on Jan. 19, 2026.
Lois M. (Althans) Moore 95, passed away on December 28, 2025 at Kent Hospital in Warwick after a five-year battle with lung disease. Lois was the loving and devoted wife of Thomas E. Moore for 76 years and lived her entire life in Cranston.

Born in Providence on December 27, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Carl L. and Ellen R. (Bassett) Althans and was the sister of the late Evelyn Wolfe.

Lois graduated from the former Cranston High School in 1948 and had the honor of having been the class Valedictorian. Lois was recognized by the by both the RI and National Honor Societies for her numerous academic achievements. She also served as head cheerleader in 1947-48, a past-time that she truly enjoyed. Following high school, Lois attended the former Felt Torrent Business School and was subsequently employed at the Hospital Trust Bank in Providence. After having her two children, Lois began working for Arco Oil Company for 22 years, and later for the Petro and Warren Oil Co. in the accounting department. Lois ended her working career retiring from the Hinkley and Allen Law Firm in 1993.

Lois found tremendous joy in time spent with the love of her life, Thomas. They enjoyed "Date-Day" every Wednesday, attending the movies or sharing a special meal together at one of her favorite restaurants: the Governor Franics Inn, Long Horn Steak House, Texas Road House and of course Twin Oaks. Lois loved picking out flowers and planting them, dancing, listening to music and singing with her beautiful voice, at one point even singing with the Melody Bells Competition Group. She was a devoted and loving mother, finding great happiness in attending her son Randy's football, hockey and baseball games. This devotion and love carried on to supporting her grandchildren, attending dance recitals and numerous sports games.

Besides her husband, she is survived by her son Randall C. Moore and wife Patricia of Saunderstown, daughter Joyce K. DePietro and husband Paul of Seekonk. In addition, Lois had the pleasure of being the grandmother to Jason DePietro (Stephanie), Kristen Lutynski (Matthew), Cristopher Moore (Tracey), Joanna Cummings (Brian) and Laura Moore as well as her great-grandchildren Nathan, Emma Lutynski, Daniel, Benjamin Cummings, Carson, Cameron Moore, step-grandchildren Scotty Babcock and, Zhuri Lopes.

Lois had a wonderful life and will now rest in peace with the Lord in Heaven. Until we meet again (Lo Lo, Mom and Nana), thank you and know that we love you now and forevermore.

Cremation with a private Memorial Service was presided over by Chaplain Matthew Glover. A private Committal in Highland Memorial Park Johnston, was officiated by the Reverend Jennifer K. West of Grace Church in Providence.
