Lois Pittman Obituary
Obituary published on Legacy.com by Lewis Funeral Homes & Crematory - Milton Chapel on Aug. 28, 2025.
"Who can find a virtuous woman, for her price is far beyond rubles"
Lois "Vermel" Pittman, 82, of Munson, Florida, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on August 25, 2025. The daughter of Ray and Mildred Stokes, she was born March 22, 1943, in the community of Pleasant Home in Santa Rosa County. She went on to become the homecoming queen at Munson High School in 1961.
"The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil, she will do him good and not evil all the days of her life",
On March 26, 1966, at Pleasant Home Baptist Church, Vermel married Aubrey "Jimmy" Pittman. Together they shared 59 years of marriage rooted in faith, love, forgiveness, and service to the Lord through the ministry.
"She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness."
If you knew Vermel, you loved her, and she loved you. Her genuine love and compassion for all she knew and met was infectious and endearing to all. Never did she judge anyone, or care about their status. Be it a millionaire or a man off the street, her love for them was not for the dollars in their pocket, or the title in their name, but for them the person. She loved the Lord, her husband, and her family, in that order. As a wife and mother, and lover of a simpler life full of hard work and sacrifice, she lived her life in daily communion with the Lord, praying and singing hymns as she worked to provide for her family. Even in her sickest moments, her faith in God never wavered, her praise to Him never ceased. She was the essence of Ruth.
"She seeketh wool, and flax, and worketh willingly with her hands."
"She riseth also while it is yet night, and giveth meat to her household"
Vermel never had a driver's license, never drove a mile in her life. Instead, she tended to the family farm. Caring for sick animals, fixing fence, herding cows, hogs, chickens, turkeys…. growing and picking vegetables, shelling peas, butterbeans, canning peaches and figs, jellies and jams, and so much more; all while making sure her family had a full meal cooked and on the table every night, and breakfast cooked before her children went out the door to school. She never spared the rod, the bridled switch was always within reach, but we were spoiled even so.
"Strength and honor are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come"
To her family, she was the steady anchor, the quiet encourager, and the gentle strength that held the family bonds tight. She was never happier than on the first Sunday of each month, when the entire family - aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, brothers, sisters, and cousins, would all come together to spend time with each other. Family was her wealth, and everyone was her family.
"Give her of the fruit of her hands; and let her own works praise her in the gates."
Vermel is survived by her husband Jimmy; sisters, Pally Coogle, Opal Thaggard; a brother, Joel Stokes; three sons, Wayne (Valerie), Justin (Olivia), and Daniel (Rebecca); 11 grandchildren, Zachary, Austin, James, Paige, Claire, Carter, Emma, Lauren, Jackson, Jaden, Jordan; 1 great-grandchild, Rayden and numerous nieces and nephews.
"Her children arise up, and call her blessed, her husband also, and he praiseth her."
The family invites you to come celebrate her life at Pleasant Home Baptist Church, Saturday August 30, 2025, to honor the remarkable woman she was. "She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness."
"Favour is deceitful, beauty is vain; but a woman that feareth the Lord, she shall be praised."
Proverbs 31
Let her be praised in the gates, for God has called his angel home……
