Lois Revel, affectionately known to her family as Flip, entered into eternal rest on August 10, 2025. Born October 13, 1931, in Crewe, Nottoway County, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Beatrice and James Hawkins. Following her mother's passing in 1939, Lois moved to Richmond, Virginia, where she was educated in the Richmond Public Schools.

In 1950, she relocated to Washington, D.C., becoming one of the first Black checker cashiers at Safeway. She joined 13th Street Church of Christ on March 17, 1957, faithfully serving in the Women's Ministry and on the Benevolence Committee until her passing.

On June 25, 1961, she married the late Everett Revel. Lois enjoyed a distinguished career at the Bureau of Engraving and Printing, beginning as a currency sheet examiner and later becoming a forewoman in the Currency Sheet Examining Division. She received numerous awards during her 30 years of service and retired in 1991. Soon after, she embarked on a second career with Costco as a demonstrator.

Lois loved cooking, family gatherings, and playing cards. Her potato salad and pound cake were legendary among family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her twin brother Theodore Hawkins, as well as brothers Gene Hawkins and Rudolph Hawkins. She leaves to cherish her memory her stepson, Keith Revel of Washington, D.C.; step daughters Yvette Simpson (Rodney) of Washington, D.C., and Paulette Robinson of Fairburn, Georgia; goddaughter Tonya Sockton of Baltimore, Maryland; sister-in-law Mary Reese Revel of Washington, D.C.; along with grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many dear friends.

A loving mother, aunt, cousin, and friend, Lois will be deeply missed but forever remembered.
