Lois Marie Lester Roop

Lois Marie Lester Roop of Alum Ridge, Floyd County passed away peacefully at home on November 19, 2025. Lois was born August 26, 1937 to the late Paul G. and Mary Ellen Spence Lester. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 62 years, Curtis Lloyd Roop, Sr.; brothers-in-law & sisters-in-law, Harlan Goad, Carl "Shorty" Roop, Cecil Roop, Carlene & Herbert Hollandsworth, Cleo & Kelly Cox, Floyd Pitts, and Clinton Roop.

She is survived by her daughter, Wanda Martin; son, Lloyd Roop and his wife Cindy; three grandchildren, Alexis Groseclose (Sam), Holly Perdue (Mikey), and Matthew Roop; three great-grandchildren, Maverick & Truett Groseclose, Rawlins Perdue; sister, Corrine Goad; brothers and sisters-in-law, Claudine Pitts, Christine McClaugherty (Mike), Cherrie Roop (J.R. Keen); Judy Roop, Shirley Roop, Carmon Roop (Anna May); and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Lois graduated from high school in 1955. She and Curtis were married on December 23, 1955. Before becoming a full time homemaker, Lois worked at Imperial Reading "Overall Factory", in Christiansburg. She lived to care for her family in every way. Lois loved to cook, can, garden, tend to her beautiful flower beds, and farm alongside her husband and son.

Before macular degeneration took her sight, Lois enjoyed sewing, quilting, and reading every book she could get her hands on, especially her bible and genealogy books. If you had a question about who was related to whom, she probably knew the answer.

Lois was a proud member of the DAR and served two terms as Chaplin. She was also a member of Pleasant Valley Church of the Brethren.

One of her greatest accomplishments was being "Memaw" and keeping her three grandchildren for many years. In most recent years she found immense joy in her three great-grandsons.

The family would like to thank Carilion Hospice especially Allie and Beverly for their love and support of Memaw. Memaw also appreciated all of the calls, cards, visits, and prayers as her health declined.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, November 24, 2025 at Pleasant Valley Church of the Brethren with Pastor Roy Turpin officiating. Interment will follow in the Lindsey Lester Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, November 23, 2025 from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at Maberry Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Gideons International, P.O. Box 140800, Nashville, TN 37214-0800.
