Lois Struchen Obituary

Lois M. (Schreckengost) Struchen, age 97, of Erie, passed away Saturday, June 28, 2025, at the Pennsylvania Soldiers & Sailors Home. Born in Erie on June 20, 1928, she was a daughter of the late Harley and Clara (Fisher) Schreckengost.
Lois was a longtime volunteer at many local churches including St. Boniface, St. James, and Our Lady of Mount Carmel. She enjoyed playing poker when camping with family, baking - especially pizzelles, and BINGO and the activities at the Soldiers & Sailors Home. Lois will be remembered by family as being a wonderful person with a huge heart and a loving and caring mother.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband William G. "Bill" Struchen; a daughter, Sally Oleson; a granddaughter, Natalie Geiger; four brothers, Harley Schreckengost, Jr., Don Schell, Merle Schell, and William Schell; and a sister, Mary Jane Robie.
Survivors include two daughters, Barbara Burek and Donna Rose, husband David; a son, William J. Struchen; nine grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call on Wednesday from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Brugger Funeral Homes & Crematory, Pine Avenue Branch, 845 East 38th St. and are invited to a funeral mass on Thursday at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 1553 East Grandview Blvd. Private burial at Wintergreen Gorge Cemetery.
Lois's family would like to thank the staff at the Soldiers & Sailors Home as well as Ascera Care Hospice for the care they gave her and the compassion they extended to her.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Pennsylvania Soldiers & Sailors Home Activities Fund, 560 East 3rd St., Erie, PA 16507 or the Amedysis Foundation (hospice), Box 944, Waterford, PA 16441.
