Ross A. Russo, of Erie, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 23rd, 2026 at the age of 91. He was born on March 1st, 1934 in
Brooklyn, NY, a son of the late Frank and Dominica "Minnie" (Natalie) Russo.
Ross was a devoted son, brother, uncle, husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He will fondly be remembered as a true gentleman for his courteous, honorable, and consistent respect for others. His life was defined not by grand gestures, but by steadfast presence, gentle wisdom, quiet strength, and unconditional love.
Ross moved to Pennsylvania with his family and was raised in Erie's own Little Italy close to many family members, and he often spoke about the good times growing up. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force where he was stationed at the Goose Bay Air Force Base in Labrador, a chapter of his life he carried with pride and humility. After his time in the military, he returned to Erie where he began to work at Quinn Berry, retiring after 45 years of employment with Carlisle Engineering (Quinn Berry, Hoover Universal, Johnson Controls)
Ross was a dedicated father and proud patriarch. He modeled for his children and grandchildren the values he embodied - hard work, loyalty, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to family.
There wasn't anything that made Ross happier than spending time with his beloved wife of 65 years, Nancy. After his children had grown, he began to cultivate his admiration for the performing arts. Along with Nancy, he spent many happy years attending shows at Mercyhurst D'Angelo Center, the Warner Theater, the Erie Playhouse, and Chautauqua Institution. Together they traveled to New York City where they cherished seeing ballets and Broadway plays. He enjoyed the movie theatre, attending concerts, and watching local sporting events.
Ross found joy in the simple pleasures of life: gathering with family, sharing good Italian food, listening to Neil Diamond, and spending time on the bowling lanes. An avid bowler, he achieved multiple 300 games and 700 series – a reflection of both his skill and determination.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Peter J. Russo, Sr, his mother-in-law, Mary Gerlock, his brother-in-law, Joseph Gerlock, and his daughter, Laura Russo.
Ross is survived by his loving wife, Nancy Russo, and their nine children: Ross Russo (Laura), Maura Russo-Detter (Mark), Mark Russo (Tobi), David Russo (Doreen), Sean Russo (Melanie Henderson), Nancy Russo (Daniel Lafaro), Joseph Russo (Kellie), Michael Russo (Jo'el), and Angela Wegemer (William); thirteen grandchildren: Lauren Hess (Nicholas), Paige Chaklos (Jordan), Eric Detter (Sebastian), John Detter, David Jr, Thomas & Allison Russo, Alex Reiser, Sophia & Chloe Russo, Tiera Petersen, and Dominic & Adriana Russo; two great grandchildren: Oliver Hess and Louise Chaklos; a sister, Maryann Russo; a brother, Frank Russo (Susan); his in-laws: Mary Ducate (John) and Steven Gerlock (Mary); and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Ross Russo, "Grandpa", will be deeply missed and forever remembered. His life was well lived, his love deeply felt, and his legacy everlasting.
As per his wishes, services will be private.
