Lois Summerhill

Lois Summerhill, a beacon of love and happiness, was born on September 13, 1950, in the quaint town of Wabash, Indiana. She left this world peacefully on September 15, 2025, in Portage, Michigan, surrounded by the warmth of cherished memories and the love of her family.

Throughout her life, Lois embodied the essence of kindness and compassion. She was a loving soul, whose heart knew no bounds, generously giving of herself to all who crossed her path. Her spirit shone brightest in the company of her beloved son, Joshua, with whom she shared an extraordinary bond. For eighteen years, they were each other’s confidants and support, reveling in simple, quiet moments together. Watching television, they often found themselves wrapped in laughter and conversation, their friendship blossoming into a lifelong connection that transcended the bounds of mere family.

Lois’s love of movies was something she shared with her entire family—creating memories with her children John, Garret, Desiree, and Joshua. She had a deep appreciation for classic films, especially black-and-white titles like Sherlock Holmes, and October was a favorite time of year when she could bring out her cherished Halloween collection. With over 5,000 movies in her personal library, Lois’s passion for cinema was both impressive and infectious, creating countless cozy nights of connection and joy.

She was a woman of many passions. Lois adored museums and could lose herself in the pages of a book, reading with remarkable speed and curiosity. She found joy in painting and music, often surrounding herself with beauty in all its forms. Her appreciation for life’s simple wonders was evident in everything she did—from the art she created to the melodies she cherished.

Lois also had a gift for bringing people together through food. When her children brought friends home, she was always ready to feed everyone with warmth and generosity. At family gatherings, she loved to cook and would always say, “There’s enough for everyone.” Her kitchen was a place of comfort, laughter, and love—a reflection of the heart that guided her every day.

Her love extended beyond people to the many animals who found a home in her heart. Lois adored her cat Bamboo and her sweet Pomeranian, Tootsie Roll—both of whom preceded her in death. She shared a special bond with her dog Baby, and loved many other pets throughout her life, including strays who wandered into her care. Even squirrels earned her affection. Though she never owned one, horses were her favorite animals, and she admired their grace and spirit with quiet reverence.

Lois’s joyous disposition was a gift to all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her unwavering devotion to her husband, Randy Summerhill, and family was a testament to her loving nature. She was cherished beyond measure, and her legacy as a devoted wife and mother lives on in the hearts of her family.

When life felt overwhelming, Lois found peace at the beach. She would often bring her children along when she could, taking off her shoes and walking the shoreline—a simple, grounding ritual that helped her clear her mind and reconnect with the beauty of the world around her.

Lois is survived by her loving children: John, Desiree, and Joshua. She also leaves behind four grandchildren from John, seven grandchildren from Desiree, and a legacy of ten great-grandchildren who will carry her spirit forward. She is also survived by many cousins and in-laws, whose lives were touched by her warmth and generosity.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Randy Summerhill; her son, Garret; her parents, Earl and Barbara; her brothers, Harold and David; and her beloved pets Bamboo and Tootsie Roll, who, no doubt, greeted her with wagging tails and gentle purrs.
