Lois "Maw Maw" West, 93, of Old Salem, Texas, entered her heavenly home on Thursday, November 13, 2025. Born November 27, 1931, in Call, Texas, Lois LaVerne Busby was the eighth of fifteen children born to Samuel Walker and Malissa Elnora (Moore) Busby. After graduating from Kirbyville High School, Lois married Homer Wade West in August 1950.
Together, they built a beautiful life rooted in faith, family, and community, and were blessed with four children.
Lois devoted her life to her family, her faith, and serving others. Lois was the heart of her family-a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose greatest joy was being surrounded by those she loved. Her home was a place of comfort and laughter, where everyone felt welcome. Whether gathered around her kitchen table or sharing stories on the porch, Lois created countless memories that will be cherished for generations. She was famous for her chicken and dumplings, but even more for the love she poured into every meal. Friends and family never left her home hungry, and their hearts were always full. Lois had a gift for making everyone feel special, and her gentle spirit and warm smile were a constant source of strength and encouragement.
A devoted member of Old Salem Baptist Church, Lois was known for her unwavering commitment to her church and community. She enjoyed her time working at Bleakwood Elementary School and serving as a member of the Trout Creek Volunteer Fire Department. Whether she was providing a warm meal to someone in need, lending a hand to a teacher in the classroom, or passing out cold water to firefighters on a hot day, she served with a generous heart-always ready with a helping hand and a kind word. Her deep faith was evident in every aspect of her life, and she inspired others through her example of love, kindness, and selflessness.
Lois is survived by sons, Howard West and wife Jane of Old Salem, Horace West of Old Salem; daughter, Joanie Selman and husband Tom of Lufkin; brothers, Dennis Busby and wife Hester of Grand Saline, Harold Busby and wife Virginia of Nederland; sisters, Pauline Perritte of Kirbyville, Sue Hinch of Vidor; grandchildren, William West and wife Corinna, Desi Johnson and husband Kelly, Summer Tomlin and husband Andre, Wade West, Ben West and wife Rebecca, Nikki Shoemaker and husband Dustin, Kelli Brightwell and husband Blake; 15 great- grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren.
