Lola Pauline Hewitt, age 83, passed away peacefully on Friday morning, July 18, 2025 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on October 22, 1941, in Coweta, Oklahoma to Carl and Rosie Bell (Murray) Greene. Pauline's early years in Coweta Public Schools were marked by her warm smile and generous spirit, which made her a beloved figure among her classmates and teachers.
On December 21, 1957, Pauline married the love of her life, Stanley "Stan" Hewitt. Their union was a testament to love, laughter, resilience, and unwavering devotion. Together, they created a home that was a haven of joy and support for all who entered.
In 1972, Pauline and Stan embarked on a business venture, taking over the Phillips 66 station in Coweta from her brother and sister-in-law, Ed and Thelma Greene. Their entrepreneurial spirit shone brightly as they later established Stan’s Tire Center in 1977, which became a cornerstone of the community for 30 years. Their dedication to service and excellence left a lasting impact on generations of customers.
Travel was a passion for Stan and Pauline, and they explored the world by boat, plane, and RV. They delighted in trips to Europe, Hawaii, the Bahamas, and many other destinations. As part of a close-knit group of "camping buddies," they shared adventures to the annual Folk Festival in Mountain View, Arkansas, fishing excursions to Lake of the Pines, Texas, and enjoyed the natural beauty of Oklahoma's lakes.
Known lovingly as “Meme” to her five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and countless other children who were lucky enough to be part of her life, Pauline had a heart big enough to hold them all. She was famous for her biscuits and sausage gravy, but even more so for the love and care she poured into every moment with her family—often found sitting on the floor, fully present with the little ones. Meme never hesitated to lend a hand, whether it meant taking Taryn and Spencer camping in the RV, dragging a few extra kids along on errands, or opening her home for snuggles and sleepovers. Her grandchildren treasure memories of camping trips, shopping adventures, gardening, swimming, and circling Christmas wishes in Black Friday catalogues. As a great-grandma, she found true joy in rocking babies and asking when she could have them over next. Meme took care of everyone, and her warmth and selflessness will be missed terribly.
A faithful member of the First Baptist Church in Coweta, Pauline's commitment to her faith and community was unwavering. She served with a gentle grace that touched the lives of many.
Pauline's legacy is carried on by her loving family. She is survived by her daughter, Tammie Neal and husband Tony of Freeport, Florida; sons, Toby Hewitt of Coweta, Oklahoma, and Terry Hewitt, who passed away less than 24 hours after her. Her brother, Johnnie Greene and wife Johnnie Lou of Coweta, Oklahoma. Her grandchildren, Justin Limon and wife Jennifer, Lauren Leonhard and husband Nate, Taryn Starkey and husband Brandon, Sarah Obiero and husband Fred, and Spencer Hewitt and wife Katherine, will forever cherish her memory. Her great-grandchildren, Bradie, Foster, and Lena Starkey; Liam and Harper Hewitt; Jack Limon; Oliver Massey; and Norah Leonhard, will continue to be inspired by her legacy.
Pauline was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Stanley Hewitt; her parents, Carl and Rosie Bell Greene; her siblings, Nina Belle Wise, Helen Mullins Appleby, Clifford Greene, and Edward Greene; and her grandchildren, Christopher Hewitt and Jaclyn Limon.
Pauline's life was a tapestry of kindness, tradition, and wisdom. Her memory will continue to shine brightly in family gatherings, cherished stories, and the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 - 8:00 PM on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, at Brown Funeral Home in Coweta, Oklahoma.
