Lola Mae (Herrold) Spriggs of Del City, Oklahoma, passed away July 16, 2024.
Lola was born on March 30, 1929, in Luther, Oklahoma. She was raised on a homestead in Luther. During her childhood she learned about farm life, including gardening, canning and food preservation. Lola was the oldest of eight children.
Lola graduated from Luther High School in 1948. Her favorite high school activity was home economics. On September 4, 1948, she wed Jefferson O. Spriggs and remained married for 65 years, prior to Jeff’s passing in 2014. In 1953, Jeff and Lola made Del City their home. Lola was a homemaker making use of the fruits and vegetables of the garden, sewing, cooking, and caring for children.
Jeff and Lola were the parents of two daughters who were raised and brought up in Del City. She was a faithful member of the Del City Church of Christ since 1953. Lola’s church involvement included teaching children, managing clothing room, benevolent activities, meal-on-wheels, quilting, and custodial work.
During the last 9 years, Lola made her home at Wellington Parke Assisted Living Facility of Del City. She thoroughly enjoyed all the events the facility had to offer including music, crafts, and games. Lola moved to the memory care part of this facility in January of this year.
Lola was preceded in death by her husband, Jefferson O. Spriggs; her parents, Ivan and Rubye Herrold; sisters, Barbara Barnard and Carolyn Metz Chapman; brothers, Ralph Herrold and Ivan “Jody” Herrold.
Lola is survived by daughters, Sonya Martin (Lynn) and Rene Brandert (Devin), both of Oklahoma City; granddaughter, Clarissa Smith of Oklahoma City; grandsons, Brent Martin (Tamara) of Owasso, Oklahoma, and Randall Lynn Martin (Christy) of Tacoma, Washington. Also left behind are great granddaughters, Elizabeth and Elaina Martin; great grandsons, Caleb and Toby Martin; three sisters: Marilyn Winans of Oklahoma City, Bonita Tucker (Bill) of Royse City, Texas, and Darlene “Hope” Hale (Steve) of Oklahoma City. A host of friends survive her, and especially her “other” family at Wellington Parke including fellow residents, staff and administration.
A funeral service will be held Friday, July 19, 2024, 10:00 a.m., at Del City Church of Christ, 1901 Vickie Dr., Del City, Oklahoma 73115. Interment will follow at Wellston Cemetery, Wellston, Oklahoma.
