Warwick, RI – Lona M. (Culham) Wood, 88, passed away surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, January 24, 2026, at the HopeHealth Hulitar Hospice Center in Providence. She was the beloved wife of the late Irving J. "Woodie" Wood, with whom, at the time of his death on March 17, 2020, she had celebrated 60 years of marriage.

Born in Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada on May 14, 1937, she was a daughter of the late Harold and Bernice (Denny) Culham. Raised in Lethbridge where her father was a funeral director, Lona, as a teenager, would drive the hearse for the Culham Funeral Home. She came to the United States in 1959 settling in Rhode Island.

Lona graduated from the Sawyer School in Providence, RI and worked as a secretary in the office of various physicians. She later joined her husband as owner/operator of I.J. Wood and Sons Trucking.

She loved sports and was an avid Boston Red Sox fan. In recent years she became a New England Patriots fan. She enjoyed doing puzzles. For many years, while not a member herself, Lona would accompany Woodie to meetings and events held by the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary, Flotilla 1-706. Lona and Woodie were snowbirds in Citrus Gardens, Mesa, AZ for the last several years.

She is survived by two sons: Myron J. Wood (wife Nancy) and Kevin L. Wood (wife Susan); four grandchildren: Matthew Wood (wife Ashley), Kaycee Wood, Kevin Wood (wife Pamela) and Steven Wood (wife Ashley) and five great-grandchildren. She was the sister of the late Marlyne Huchala and the beloved aunt of Allan Stenbeck, Peggy Fraser and Donna Denboer, all of Canada.

Her services will be private. Donations in her memory made to HopeHealth Hulitar Hospice Center, 1085 North Main Street, Providence, RI 02904 (https://www.hopehealthco.org/) would be appreciated. Condolences may be offered to her family and favorite memories of Lona shared online at www.carpenterjenks.com
