Loney Lorene Smith, age 80, entered into eternal rest on Monday, August 25, 2025. She was a native of Newellton, LA, and a resident of Westwego, LA. Loney was a graduate of California College for Health Sciences, where she received her diploma as a Respiratory Therapy Technician and became a Certified Respiratory Therapy Technician in 1988. She became employed in 1976 at Charity Hospital and retired after 33 years. Then she volunteered at Charity Hospital receiving recognition as one of the Volunteers of the Year in 2013. She later went on to work part-time with respiratory failure patients who received dialysis at Ferncrest Manor until 2023, as her final retirement. Loney was a faithful member and deaconess of Historic True Vine Baptist Church for approximately 33 years. Loney was a devoted mother to Carla D. Smith. Beloved daughter of the late Earl A. Smith, Sr. and Mary Baker Smith. She is survived by her younger brothers, Anthony R. Smith and Darnell Smith. Loney was preceded in death by Mary Smith Mitchell, Elizabeth Smith, Ora Lee Smith, Jacquelyn Smith, Earl A. Smith, Jr., William Smith, Roger Smith, and Eugene. Loney was the sister-in-law of Calvert Smith (Elizabeth), Thelma Smith (Roger), Claudia Smith (Anthony), Joyce Smith (Darnell), the late Joan Smith (William), and Edith Smith (Earl, Jr.). Loney is the niece of the late Charlotte Landers (Richard), Elsie Young (Robert), Sam, Sr. (Sarah), Woodrow (Corinne), David (Pearlina), and Jessie James Baker (Martha). Loney is also survived by her two goddaughters Sharon Tilton, Shandrika Williams, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Relatives and friends of the family, pastors, officers, members of Historic True Viine Baptist Church, Franklin Avenue Baptist Church, Ochsner Kidney Care Center, and all neighboring churches are invited to attend the Homegoing Celebration at Historic True Vine Baptist Church, 249 Sala Avenue, Westwego, LA on Friday, September 12, 2025, at 10:00a.m. Pastor Leander Johnson, officiating. Visitation will begin at 8:30a.m. until service time at the church.Interment: Mt.
