Lonnie G. Allaman, 71, of
Macomb, IL (formerly of Sciota, IL) passed away peacefully at the Lamoine Assisted Living on Saturday, June 22, 2024 at 10:20 p.m.
He is survived by two daughters from his first marriage, Christa (Beau) Ingledue of
Macomb, IL and Lacey Roderick Sadlier (David) of Stafford, VA; three grandsons, Quinn Roderick of Stafford, VA and Carter and Parker Ingledue of
Macomb, IL; one sister Carolyn (David) Bowman of Sciota, IL and one sister-in-law Sarah (Dennis) Allaman of Monmouth, IL; eight nephews, as well as many great-nephews, great-nieces, and cousins.
Lonnie was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Dennis Allaman.
Lonnie was born May 14, 1953 in Monmouth, IL to Bruce and Maxine Allaman (James). He attended Northwestern High School and graduated from Quincy Technical School in 1972. Lonnie married the late Carol A. Johnson in August 1972, then later, Michelle Smilnak.
Lonnie was active in FFA and showing hogs at the county fairs during high school. He enjoyed working on cars and became quite skilled at troubleshooting engine problems and figuring out how to make repairs.
Lonnie farmed in Sciota, Illinois alongside his father until 1987. He then went on to work for Ward Crop Service, Moore Equipment, and Nickson Oil and Tire until he started with McDonough Telephone Cooperative in 1997, until retirement.
Lonnie was very active for many years as a volunteer with the Good Hope-Sciota Fire Department, holding the position of Assistant Fire Chief for three years. He spent time assisting Sciota Township in emergency situations running snow plows, as needed during hard winters. He also served on the Sciota Township Board of Trustees.
Lonnie greatly enjoyed country living, he loved keeping his yard in the country and later in town in top shape. He liked spending time with his beloved dogs Bear and Maggie, planting trees, hunting, and fishing. Lonnie especially loved to fish for catfish, then have a family fish fry to enjoy together.
He was the ultimate "Mr. Fix It," always having a knack for figuring out how to make something work. He liked the challenge of figuring out how to fix a mechanical problem or how to build projects from scratch, never writing down notes, just doing the figuring in his head.
He relished his title of Grandpa to his three grandsons and loved more than anything, spending time with them in his workshop, fishing, and supporting them at their school and sporting activities. He was so very proud of his grandsons.
