Lonnie Dale Johnson of Green Castle, Missouri left his loved ones to go home to his heavenly father on December 5, 2025. Lonnie was born on May 9, 1952 to Elbert and Jolene (Grabosch) Johnson in Kirksville. He married his only love, Barbara Ellen (McVay) Johnson on January 20, 1973. To this union, there were 3 daughters, Melissa Ellen Maloney, Nichole Renee Johnson, and Sunny Dale Tipton. Lonnie is survived by his wife, Barbara. They would have celebrated their 53rd anniversary next month. Also surviving are their two daughters, Melissa and her husband, BJ, their children Brenner (fiancé Meghan), Cade and Teagan Maloney all of Liberty, Sunny and her sons, Eli and Noah Tipton all of Green Castle, and grandsons, Jarrett McCarty and wife Lacey of Parkville, and Jeremy McCarty and fiance, Naydelin, of Kansas City, sister Tonya Kiger and husband Randy of Green Castle, brother Jerol Johnson and wife Theresa of Green City, and sister Taryn Shafer and husband Brent of Kirksville, along with several nieces and nephews. Lonnie was a very dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and uncle. He enjoyed attending his kids' and grandkids' sporting events over the years. He loved gardening and sharing his harvest with family, friends and neighbors. One of his favorite hobbies was cutting wood for the winter. His other passion was hunting, whether that was bird hunting, deer, turkey, coyote, rabbit, and even mushroom hunting in the spring. Lonnie truly enjoyed finding the loudest firecrackers to set off on the 4th of July and putting on a display for his neighborhood. He liked being outdoors and spending time with his family.
He was almost generous to a fault with his time in helping others. Whether it was plowing someone's garden, plowing snow from their driveway, or helping them with landscaping projects, he was always willing to lend a hand to those who needed help.
After graduating from Green City High School in 1970, he was hired at Lamberts Glove Factory. After leaving Lamberts, he worked at Mihalevich Construction for 4 years before working several years at Burroughs which later became Standard Register until it closed at which time he started working for Star Shinafelt doing carpentry. He later retired at age 62 but he continued working part-time doing carpentry.
He will be greatly missed by his family and friends which he had many of.
Services will be held at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, December 10, 2025 at Ruschmeier-Smith Funeral Home in Green City. A visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral, starting at 1:00 PM. He will be laid to rest in the Green Castle Cemetery.
