Lora “Mae” Ewald

Lora "Mae" Guess Ewald, of Chattanooga, TN, died February 10, 2026. She was born in Griffin, GA, on Valentine's Day in 1937, to Alice & Lonnie Howell. She is a graduate of Mount Pisgah Academy, near Asheville, NC. She was married to Don Guess for 45 years until his death in 2001. She married Roland Ewald in 2005, and they were married until his death in 2014.

Mae enjoyed fly fishing, sailing, taking walks in nature, reading, and spending time with her family.

She is survived by her daughter, Donna Knauss (Tracy); son, Dennis Guess (Debbie); sisters, Estoria Cole and Mary Chitester (Les); granddaughter, Megan Knauss (Mario); grandson, Travis Knauss (partner Kevin Adkins); stepdaughter, Kathie Christiansen (Fred); stepson, Don Ewald (Caron); step-grandchildren, Monique, Bonnie, and Andrew Christiansen; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Alice & Lonnie Howell; husbands, Don Guess and Roland Ewald; sister, Nell Dunn; and step-granddaughter Liesl Christiansen.

The family will receive visitors at Heritage Funeral Home, Battlefield Parkway, Ft Oglethorpe, GA, on Feb 16 from 5-7 pm. The funeral will be at Collegedale Seventh-Day-Adventist Church on Feb 17 at 1:00 pm.
