Loren James ("Jim") Sullivan, born October 10, 1942 to Claron C. and Irma A. Sullivan at Independence, KS, went peacefully home to be with his Heavenly Father early Monday morning, November 4, 2024.
Loren was 82 years old. He was a lifetime resident of Independence. Attended rural one-room schoolhouse Highland Center first grade through eighth grade. Graduated from IHS in 1960. Graduated from ICC in 1962. From there he went on to become a full-time farmer and rancher working with both his Dad and his younger brother Gerald Sullivan. Married to Carolyn M. (Jabben) Sullivan on July 16, 1966. They have two children Patricia (Sullivan) Farr and Roger Sullivan. Lifetime member of Zion Lutheran Church, served many years on the Board of Trustees, the Board of Education, served as Sunday School Superintendent, and as an Elder. Also had a farrow-to-finish hog operation. Raised most of his own feed for the livestock and usually filled two silos with silage. Baled many meadows, nearly all to little square bales. Also did some custom work in addition to the farm and ranch operation.
Loren was preceded in death by his parents Claron and Irma (Hellwig) Sullivan.
Loren is survived by his wife of 58 years Carolyn Sullivan. He is survived by his younger brother Gerald C. Sullivan of Independence. He is survived by his daughter Patricia (Sullivan) Farr, her husband Jay of Independence, and their two daughters Riley and Reagan; step-granddaughter Katie Stroud and her husband Ryan of Lenexa, KS, and their three daughters Annalise, Aria and Emma; step-grandson Christopher Farr and his wife Shannon of San Francisco, California; step-granddaughter Jenni Honeycutt and her husband Jake of Olathe, KS, and their two daughters Alaina and Sabrina. He is survived by his son Roger Sullivan of Carl Junction, MO, and his two sons Colby and Tyler. He is survived by his nephew Brian Sullivan and his wife Melissa of Owensboro, Kentucky, and their two children Gordon and Mela. He is survived by his nephew Stanley Sullivan and his wife Kathy of Independence, and their son Hayden. He is survived by his niece Larissa Scammey and her husband Justin of Orlando, Florida, and their two children Willard and Malerie.
Visitation will be held 5:00-7:00pm Thursday, November 14, at Potts Chapel, 122 S. Penn Ave, Independence. Funeral service will be held 11:00am Friday, November 15, at Zion Lutheran Church, 219 S. 10th St, Independence. Graveside services will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Zion Lutheran Church, 219 South 10th Street, Independence, KS 67301 - in honor of Loren Sullivan.
