Gary D. Bailey, 74, passed away peacefully on March 7th, 2026, in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, surrounded by family.
Gary was born on October 30th, 1951, in Winfield, Kansas, to Robert and Mary (Orlowski) Bailey. He was predominantly raised in western Kansas and northwestern Colorado.
A graduate of Moffat County High School in Craig, Colorado in 1969. Gary worked on a program while in high school to become an announcer at KRAI Radio in Craig, Colorado. Gary joined the workforce immediately as a radio newscaster, sportscaster, and DJ in Winfield, Kansas. In 1975, Gary joined KGGF Radio in Coffeyville, Kansas, where he not only served as a morning news anchor but also became widely known as the voice of the Coffeyville Red Ravens until 1991. He later joined KIND Radio in Independence, Kansas, as the play-by-play announcer for the ICC Pirates. During his time in radio, Gary also called play-by-play for area high school sports, including the Field Kindley High School Golden Tornado and the Independence High School Bulldogs. Gary ultimately retired in 2015 after serving eight years as the deputy court clerk in Montgomery County, Kansas.
Gary is the father of three children: Steve Booker, Mary Pollett, and Tommy Bailey. He has eight grandchildren — Ryan, Maryann, Jaxon, Patrick, Katherine, Kennedy, Parker, and Aniston; two great-grandchildren, Mikah and Maverick.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Mary Bailey; his brother, Bruce Bailey; two brothers-in-law, Mike Alexander and Riley Sovine; his niece, Stacy Roundtree; and his grandson, Joey Bailey.
Gary was an avid reader and library patron from an early age and served on the Board of Trustees at the Coffeyville Public Library from 2012 to 2020, including three years (2016–2019) as board president. He enjoyed serving in church, lending his voice to speaking parts in church plays and events, and he faithfully served the shut- in community by delivering comfort and smiles to those unable to attend in person.
Gary is survived by his sisters Marcia Sovine and Rita Alexander of Independence, and Deborah (Barney) Williams of Colorado Springs, Colorado.
To honor Gary, the family will hold a private memorial dinner to celebrate his life, share stories, and reflect on cherished memories. The family deeply appreciates the support and kindness shown during this time.
Gary requests that all memorials in his name be made to the Coffeyville Public Library.
