Loren John Vrieze, age 89, of Rochester, MN passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Tuesday, September 9th, 2025, at Edenbrook West in Rochester, MN. Loren was born on November 21st, 1935, in Spring Valley, MN to Earle and Lucille (Baures) Vrieze. He attended and graduated from Wykoff High School. He worked for Waters Conley (later named Telex Communications) an electronics manufacturer in Rochester, in the shipping and receiving department until his retirement. He met his lifelong love Shirley Naylor while dancing at the Pla-Mor ballroom in Rochester, and married her on May 3rd, 1957. They were married for more than 68 years. Together they had three children; Dennis, Scott and Kelly. Loren and Shirley attended Rochester Assembly Church for over 20 years, where he was an active church usher and greeter. Loren was a man of strong faith, and relied on God for support and comfort. He also enjoyed fishing, camping, and gardening. He loved hunting, especially hunting with his children and other family members. Loren would always attend his children's sporting events and other activities and was an assistant coach for their little league team growing up. He loved to play card games, especially cribbage. Above all, Loren was a kind and gentle soul with a lively and playful sense of humor, who enjoyed and cherished the time spent with his family.
Loren is preceded in death by his parents, Earle and Lucille Vrieze; his grandson, Thomas Perry; brothers, Nevin Vrieze, Burdette Vrieze, and Leslie Vrieze; and sister, Janette Schroeder.
He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Shirley Vrieze; children, Dennis (Kathie) Vrieze, Scott (Sheri) Vrieze, and Kelly Perry (Alan Knoff); grandchildren, Rhiannon (Travis) Roberts, Ben Vrieze, Katie (Thomas) Brekke, Jacob (Jessica) Vrieze, Hunter (MacKinzy) Minske, Morgan (Jeremy) Schwanz, Travis Perry, Krysta Perry, Josh Smith (Abe Widjaja) and Sarah (Scott) Lester; fourteen great grandchildren, one great great grandchild; and siblings, Bill Vrieze, Carole Wilder, Mary Metcalf, and Donna Oeltjen.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, September 13th, 2025, at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Home (5421 Royal Place NW, Rochester, MN 55901) with visitation one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
