Lorene Burris Maupin of Campbellsville died Saturday, October 11 at age 94 under Hosparus care for declining health. She was the widow of William S. “Bill” Maupin, with whom she enjoyed 68 years of marriage. Together they raised four children: Joe and Rachel preceded her in death while Maria and David survive along with son-in-law J.D. Shipp and daughters-in-law Patty Maupin and Linda Newton Maupin.
Lorene taught home economics at TCHS, elementary classes at the parochial school, planned menus and substituted for CIS, and was a leader of girl scout and cub scout troops in the community. A faithful member of First Methodist Church, Lorene professed faith in Jesus and loved others unconditionally. For many years she was the self-appointed groundskeeper of flower beds at her church and subdivision entry. She was a good steward of resources and a generous giver in many ways including Red Cross blood drives as a donor or volunteer. Her sewing machines turned out innumerable articles of clothing, costumes, doll clothes, curtains, quilts, monograms, and upholstered items. She often searched for scissors or garden tools up into her final weeks.
Lorene is fondly remembered by her six grandchildren for oatmeal cookies, vegetable soup, raking leaves, playing games, and reading books. She has celebrated and loved on thirteen great grandchildren and has enjoyed eating ice cream with two great-great granddaughters and some very special caregivers.
