Lorene Daughtry Obituary

Published by Legacy on Apr. 27, 2023.
WACO - Lorene Daughtry, 89, passed away April 23, 2023 in Waco, Texas.
Lorene was born Sept. 3, 1933 to parents Hubert and Reba Fitzgerald in Paradise, Texas. She graduated from Chico High School in 1951 and enrolled with a full scholarship in the Brantley-Draughon Business School, which brought her to Fort Worth where she would spend the majority of her life. Lorene will be remembered for her servant heart, her love for people and sports, and the way life blossomed around her.
Lorene was a dedicated homemaker and mother to Gwynne and Lisa. She was very active in her church congregations where she was a member, Westworth Church of Christ just west of Fort Worth and Southside Church of Christ in Robinson, spending a lot of time involved in Bible studies and serving in ladies' and outreach ministries. Her love for Jesus and her servant heart was reflected in everything that she did - many remember her for the way that she "adopted them in," making everyone feel like family. She was a blessing in the lives of all who had the joy of knowing her.
Family (whether born, adopted in, or friends that might as well be family) was everything to Lorene. She made it a point to spend quality time with her loved ones as often as she could. She really enjoyed going out to eat with friends to places like Cotton Patch Café and IHOP. She loved getting to attend all of the activities and celebrations for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She utilized all types of technology to continue to keep up with her friends and family throughout her life when she found herself separated from them. After relocating to Waco, she continued to participate in her Westworth Church of Christ family by attending Bible studies via Zoom. She also spent a lot of her free time on Facebook keeping up with the lives of friends and family or playing games like Words with Friends on her tablet.
Lorene was also an avid sports fan and loved keeping up with her favorite teams - the Dallas Mavericks and the Texas Rangers. She and her late husband Keneth would often attend Rangers games, and she helped to encourage a love of sports in her great-grandson, Grayson, often taking time to talk scores and stats with him as he started to follow and develop his own favorite teams.
Lorene had a green thumb and could make anything grow. As you stepped into her yard, you would see the most wonderful explosion of life and color. She kept it decorated with the most beautiful flowers, bird feeders, and bird houses, and she enjoyed watching and listening to the many birds that would visit her beautiful yard during the peaceful moments in her day. Life blossomed around her wherever she went, whether inside the hearts of those she interacted with or the beauty she brought to her surroundings.
Lorene was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Keneth Lavon Daughtry; daughter, Gwynne Evelyn Freymuth; brother, H.S. Fitzgerald, Jr.; and sister, Mary Lou Hall.
She is survived by her daughter, Lisa Rainey and husband, John; granddaughter, Michelle Smith and husband, Kevin; grandson, Ryan Rainey and wife, Nicole; grandson, Bryan Freymuth and wife, Lauren; granddaughter, Natalie Tumlin and husband, Paul; granddaughter, Kendra Richardson and husband, Zac; granddaughter, Megan Freymuth; and great-grandchildren, Makenna Smith, Cade Lee, Grayson Smith, Isabella Freymuth, Graham Tumlin, Wyatt Smith, Weston Rainey, Granger Tumlin, Brooke Rainey, Aurora Freymuth, Remi Richardson and Everett Richardson; sister, Joyce Boone; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins and countless special friends that she considered to be family.
