LORENE TAYLOR DUNLAP
Lorene Taylor Dunlap was the first child born on May 26, 1937, to the late Mr. Tolbert Taylor and Hazel Braden Taylor in Monroe, Arkansas. She resided in the Altheimer community until her health began to fail and later moved to
Pine Bluff, Arkansas until she answered the call from God on Thursday, February 5, 2026.
Lorene was a kind-hearted, humble and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and caregiver to many. She surrendered her life to Christ at an early age under the late Rev. William Bell of Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Monroe, Arkansas. After moving to Altheimer, Arkansas she joined Battle Chapel Baptist Church in Altheimer under the leadership of the late Rev. Elbert Harris Sr.,where she served as a Sunday school teacher, youth leader, usher and sang in the choir. She was currently a member of Greater Battle Chapel Missionary Baptist Church of
Pine Bluff, Arkansas under the leadership of Pastor James Rice Jr., until her death. Lorene was well known as a caregiver, home keeper, store clerk, for spending time with her grandchildren and great grands, talking on the telephone and affectionately known for giving out grand hugs and pinches to whomever she made contact with. Lorene was a member of Order of Eastern Star Yellowstone-Bright Light Chapter #145.
Lorene married the love of her life for 68 years on January 11, 1957, the late Edward "Pete" Dunlap whom she LOVED dearly and was affectionally known to us as "my husband". To this union, seven children were born, and she had one bonus daughter whom she loved dearly.
Lorene was preceded in death by her parents; her husband - Edward Dunlap Sr.; two brothers - Tolbert Taylor Jr. of Compton, California and Charles Taylor of Toledo, Ohio; two sisters - Beverly Bush of Toledo, Ohio and Helen Alexander of Altheimer, Arkansas; three grandchildren – Kera Dunlap, Angurnette Creggett, Kaleia Grant and three great grandchildren – O'Marion Creggett, Joshua Wheeler II, and Sabria Culclager.
Lorene leaves to cherish her memories, her children: Leatha Mae (Dennis) Turner of Little Rock, Arkansas; Edward (Cynthia) Dunlap Jr of Woodson, Arkansas; Hazel Dunlap Creggett of
Pine Bluff, Arkansas; Lisa (Eddie) Mitchell Sr of San Antonio, Texas; Leonard (Marie) Dunlap of North Little Rock, Arkansas; Veola Gail Dunlap (whom was her loving caregiver and took great care of her) of
Pine Bluff, Arkansas; Lori Dunlap of Lancaster, Texas; Naretha Dunlap-Price of Fort Worth, Texas, her siblings – Rodney Taylor of Holland, Ohio; Terrie Miller of Maumee, Ohio; Mary Christopher of Allen, Texas; Yvonne Joseph of Gloucester, Virginia; Marguerite Holmes of Columbus, Ohio; Renee West of Hampton, Virginia; Roxanne Taylor and Michelle Gray both of Toledo, Ohio. She also has 29 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren, and a host of in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Funeral services will be held Saturday February 14, 2026 at New Community Baptist Church at 11:00 am.
Visitation will be Friday February 13, 2026 from 6:00 pm-7:30pm at Greater Battle Chapel Missionary Baptist Church.
Burial will be in Altheimer Community Cemetery.
