Lorene Mae Hoffmeister, passed away at her home in Rural Independence, Kansas, on Thursday October 9, 2025, at the age of 95. Born on April 2, 1930, in Topeka, Kansas, Lorene was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and cherished friend to many.
She graduated from Silver Lake High School, class of 1948, then worked at SWB Telephone in Topeka for 12 years. Once the children were grown, she then worked for the Topeka State Hospital until her retirement. Lorene married Richard (Dick) Hoffmeister on July 22, 1955, they were married for 68 years and felt her most treasured role was that of a stay-at-home mother. Throughout her life, she was known for her dedication to her family and her unwavering support for her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
She is survived by her children, Rick Hoffmeister and Trish of Topeka, Kansas, Marc and Margaret Hoffmeister of Independence, Kansas, and daughter-in-law Hannah Hoffmeister of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. Lorene cherished her seven grandsons: Matt, Cole, Kurtis, Lane, Jordan, Heath, and Kevin, as well as ten great grandchildren.
A member of the Central Church of Christ in Topeka, Lorene taught kindergarten bible class for 30 years, and later a member of the Cherryvale Church of Christ. Her passion was cooking and preparing home-cooked meals passing on the tradition of Christmas Stollen and German Chocolate Cake. She also enjoyed quilting, cross stitch, sewing and reading.
Lorene was preceded in death by her husband, Richard; their son, James Hoffmeister; her brother, Bob McClelland; and her parents, Howard "H.R." Russell and Antonia Leupold McClelland.
Lorene Mae Hoffmeister’s warm spirit, gentle demeanor, and enduring love will be profoundly missed by her family, her friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Her life was a testament to faith and devotion, leaving behind a legacy of love.
Cremation has taken place with a memorial service at the Church of Christ in Cherryvale Kansas to be held Saturday November 8, 2025, at 10:30 am. Arrangements are under the direction of Wickham Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 216 E. 4th St. Cherryvale, Kansas 67335.
Memorial remembrances are to Tall Grass Christian Camp and can be left or mailed to the funeral home.
