Lorene Lacer, age 95 of Amarillo, passed away on March 15, 2026, in Amarillo.

A funeral to honor her life will be on Thursday, March 19, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Paramount Baptist Church. Pastors Jeremy McMorris and Lance Herrington will officiate. Entombment will follow at Llano Cemetery Pantheon Mausoleum.

Lorene Lacer was born October 20, 1930, in Wewoka, Oklahoma, to William and Beulah Hopkins. She was the sixth of eight children. Lorene graduated from Wewoka High School in 1948 as the valedictorian of her class and continued her education at Amarillo College.

On May 27, 1951, she married the love of her life, Orland Lacer, in Wewoka, Oklahoma. They shared more than sixty-two wonderful years of marriage before his passing on May 19, 2013. Together they enjoyed traveling extensively, visiting approximately forty countries and forty-nine states. Alaska remained the only state they did not visit.

Lorene began her career with Southwestern Public Service in 1952 and faithfully served the company for forty years. She retired in 1992 as Corporate Assistant Secretary and Manager of the Investor Relations Department.

She was a charter member of Paramount Baptist Church in Amarillo, where she was actively involved in the prayer ministry and the Love Sunday School Class. She also served on the church’s 40th Anniversary Committee.

Lorene was deeply involved in the Amarillo community and participated in many civic and cultural organizations. She currently served as President of the Executive Board of Directors for the Lone Star Ballet and was involved with the Amarillo Symphony, Panhandle Geological Auxiliary, Amarillo Little Theatre Guild, Power of the Purse, Texas Panhandle Heritage Foundation, Amarillo Republican Women, and the Amarillo Opera, among many others. Her dedication to her community earned her numerous honors throughout the years, including receiving the Woman of Distinction Award from the Girl Scouts of Texas-Oklahoma Plains in 2009 and was named as one of the Amarillo Globe-News Headliners during the 2018 Amarillo Globe-News Man and Woman of the Year. Despite her many accomplishments, Lorene remained humble and gracious.

She was preceded in death by her four sisters, Beatrice Terrell Harjo, Lucille Ross, Mildred Erwin, and Pat Shipley Coulon, and two brothers, Hubert Hopkins and Calvin Hopkins.

Lorene is survived by her brother, Don Hopkins of Tulsa, Oklahoma; numerous nieces and nephews; a special niece, Brenda Davis and her husband Bob of Pampa; her dear friend Anne Thomas of Amarillo; and a host of other loving friends.

The family extends a special thank you to Ruby Slippers, Terry Jones, and the many friends and neighbors who brought food, offered support, and checked on Lorene daily.

The family suggests memorials be made in Lorene’s memory to Paramount Baptist Church, 3801 South Western, Amarillo, Texas 79109 or The Lone Star Ballet, 3218 Hobbs, Amarillo, Texas, 79109.
