Lorene Carol Thompson
Lorene passed away peacefully on Saturday Sept 28th at her home in Fort Myers, FL with loving family by her side. She was 94. She was born in Austin, MN on July 22, 1930 to the late Andrew and Marie Risdall Anhorn.
Lorene was a graduate of Austin High in 1948 where she met her future husband, Ronald Thompson. They raised their 5 children in Austin until moving to Rochester, MN in 1971. She enjoyed a successful career at the Mayo Clinic prior to her retirement in Fort Myers, FL. Lorene was known in her community as a friend to all. She always had a smile on her face, laughter in her voice, and a kind word to all. She enjoyed all card games, golfing, and spending time with family and friends recanting stories and laughing. She was a member of many social clubs At Whiskey Creek Country Club. Her MN Twins and Vikings were always cheered on! Married at St Olaf Lutheran on May 5, 1951, Lorene and Ron joined Bethel Lutheran after moving to Rochester and upon moving to Fort Myers were founding members of Peace Lutheran Church.
Lorene was predeceased by her husband Ron in 2013, her son James in 1992, her parents, her sister Elaine Hartin and her brother Andrew Anhorn. She is survived by her four children, Carol Weber of Fort Myers, FL; Mark Thompson of Fort Myers, FL; Craig (Jennifer) Thompson of Austin, MN; and Scott (Crystal) Thompson of Carefree, AZ and her sister, Marie (Jose) Cano of Austin, MN. She is also a proud grandmother and is survived by her ten grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 12:00pm on Saturday Nov 2, 2024 at St Olaf Lutheran Church in Austin, MN Visitation will be at 11:00am followed by a post-service luncheon and internment at Oakwood Cemetery.
