Loretta Browning Obituary

Published by Legacy on May 9, 2025.
Loretta Lynne Browning, 69, passed away in Garland, Texas, on April 17, 2025.
She is survived by her brothers, Robert, Randall, Richard, and Russell; nieces, Ashley, Eli, Deborah, and Sarah; and nephew, Nathan. She is preceded in death by her parents, Lynn and Ruth, and her sister, Lana.
Loretta was born in Houston on December 8, 1955, and moved with her family to Mesquite, Texas, in 1968. After graduating from North Mesquite High School in 1974, she joined the U.S. Army, proudly serving as a Chaplain Assistant in Mannheim, Germany. Loretta earned her Bachelor's degree from the University of Texas at Dallas and began a lengthy career in church and nonprofit administration. She was a member of Highland Park Presbyterian Church, where she served in the children's ministry and sang in the choir for many worship services and special performances. Loretta inherited her family's deep love of music as a talented singer. She shared her beautiful voice with the world often, singing and traveling internationally with the Dallas Symphony Chorus and as a founding member of the Mesquite Civic Chorus. She held a profound passion for the people of the world and cherished her memories of mission trips in Europe, Israel, and Kenya throughout her life.
Loretta will be remembered for the kindness she so freely shared with those around her and the way she enjoyed even life's smallest joys. She was a dedicated big sister, beloved aunt, and compassionate woman who will be missed beyond words.
A celebration of her life will be held on Friday, May 9, at 1:00 pm, at Highland Park Presbyterian Church, with reception following. We welcome family, friends, and loved ones to remember her with us, in her beloved sanctuary of worship.

I was unable to attend the memorial service on Friday. Loretta sang with HPPC's Chancel Choir for several years, and I've sung in that choir for 52 years. I attended Mr. Browning's funeral in December 2013 representing the compassion of our choir for the bereavement of our members. We missed having Loretta sing with us as a part of our choir family since before that event. I am sorrowful for your loss. - Tony Watson
