Derek James Browning

Derek James Browning, 40, a beloved son, father, brother, and uncle, entered eternal rest with loving family by his side on Friday, February 6, 2026, at 5:35 p.m. in the comfort of his home in Bloomington, Indiana, while listening to his favorite music.

Derek was born to Charles and Susan (Silbernagel) Browning on Wednesday, May 15, 1985, in Martinsville, Indiana, He spent most of his life in Bloomington and was a proud graduate of Harmony High School.

Shortly after graduation, Derek discovered his love for cooking and worked as a cook at both the Crazy Horse and the Hilton Inn in Bloomington. Despite many trials and tribulations with his mental health, Derek continually overcame obstacles and developed into a talented musician. He was an accomplished classical guitarist who also loved art and was honored with the title of Honorary Blackfoot.

Derek's greatest love was his family, especially his daughter, Rosie, of whom he was immensely proud and who was truly his whole world.

To honor and cherish his memory, he leaves behind his daughter, Roselyn Koko Browning, "Rosie" of Solsberry, along with her mother and Derek's dear friend, Leah Bebe Young; his loving parents, Chuck Browning of Bloomington and Susan Browning of Martinsville; brother, Dillon Browning (Samantha) of Bloomington; his beloved nephew, Theodore Browning and his cats, Glory and Percy.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Jack and Louise Silbernagel, and Gene and Rosemary Browning and his beloved dog, River.

In honoring Derek's wishes, cremation will take place. A celebration of life service, as requested by Derek, will be held at the beach at Lake Monroe. Family and friends are invited to gather on his birthday, May 15, 2026, beginning at 2:00 p.m. at the Paynetown Shelter House at Lake Monroe in Bloomington.
