Charlene Van Hook

Charlene Van Hook, age 72, passed away peacefully at her home with her loving husband, Richard, by her side on January 12th, 2026, in Nine Mile Falls, Washington.

She was born on May 27th, 1953, in Martinsville, Indiana, to the late Charles Edward and Nova Alene (Slaven) Gearing. Charlene spent her early years in Martinsville and was a proud graduate of Martinsville High School with the Class of 1971.

She met the love of her life, Richard Van Hook, in December 1974 while both were working at Tiny's Pizza in Martinsville. On December 20th, 1975, the two became one and were happily married for 50 years. Building a life rooted in devotion, laughter, and family together making a total of 51 years of true love.

Charlene later moved with her husband and their two daughters to Spokane, Washington, in June of 1986 where she made a house a home for her family. She was a devoted wife and mother of two daughters, Christina and Lori Van Hook both of Spokane, WA, and a proud and loving grandma to Ariel, Abbi, Lucie, Charlie, and Zoey, and a precious great-grandson, Weston, who brought her endless joy. She also leaves behind one brother, Jim (wife, Deb) Gearing of Martinsville, IN; an uncle, John Slaven of Lafayette, IN, and several extended family members.

Family meant everything to Charlene. She loved spending time together, taking trips and creating memories that will be treasured forever. She had a deep love for people and a caring heart that made everyone feel special and loved. Her legacy will forever live on through her family and the many lives she touched.

A service celebrating Charlene's life will be held in Martinsville, IN, at Neal & Summers Funeral and Cremation Center on Friday, January 23rd, 2026, at 2:00 PM with one hour of visitation prior to the funeral service. She will be laid to rest following the service in Greenlawn Cemetery in Martinsville, Indiana. Condolences may be shared with her family at www.nealandsummers.com.
