John Baughn Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Neal & Summers Funeral and Cremation Center on Feb. 13, 2026.
Beloved family man, John A. Baughn,70 of Martinsville, passed from this life at 6:02 AM on Wednesday, February 11th, 2026, at Community South Hospital in Indianapolis with his loving family by his side.

Born on Saturday, February 19th, 1955, to John H. Baughn and Jean (Burleigh) Baughn, John dedicated his life to creating unforgettable memories with his family. At the age of eleven, John lost his mother after an extended illness and he was later adopted by Joan Baughn, who raised him alongside his father from age twelve.

For over four decades, John spent every summer at White Lake in Montague, Michigan, where he embarked on fishing adventures, boating, tubing, skiing and game nights with family. In addition to the family summer vacations in Michigan, John loved camping with his friends (affectionately known as "The Village") and his family, traveling across the United States.

As an avid sports fan, he was a devoted supporter of the Indianapolis Colts, Butler Bulldogs and the Indiana Hoosiers. He spent many years coaching his daughters' softball teams at Artesian Little League and was a longtime member of the Martinsville Elks Lodge #1349. John also loved playing and watching golf and was a member of the Men's Monday Night Golf League for many years at the Martinsville Golf Club.

Above all, John's greatest joy was his grandchildren, whom he couldn't talk about without beaming with pride. He spent countless hours with them, attending their sporting events, school activities, playing games, vacationing, and was the epitome of a loving grandfather.

John graduated from Martinsville High School in 1973 and later attended Vincennes University, where he was a member of the Sigma Pi Fraternity. It was during his time at Vincennes that he met the love of his life, Kathy. Their wedding on December 2, 1978, marked the beginning of a 47-year journey of love and partnership. John and Kathy were blessed with two wonderful daughters, Katie and Beth, each embodying their parents' unique personalities.

Before retiring in 2017, John served as the Director of Procurement at Harman International for over 40 years. This role granted him the opportunity to travel the globe and interact with a diverse range of individuals.

John was preceded in death by his parents, John H. and Jean Baughn; his brother, Albert "Butch" Baughn; and his sisters, Linda Dransfield and Debbie Hartzler.

He is survived by his wife, Kathy Baughn; daughters, Katie (Scotty) Hobbs and Beth (Nicole Todd) Baughn; six beloved grandchildren, John, Jackson, and Grace Hobbs, and Olivia, Everett, and Emerson Baughn-Todd; mother, Joan Baughn; brothers, David (Mona) Baughn, Larry (Cindy) Land, and Ronnie (Debbie) Baughn; brothers-in-law, Jack Hartzler and Gary Henn; sisters-in-law, Janice Baughn and Patty Hubbard; and several nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are invited to visit on Monday, February 16th, 2026, from 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM at Neal & Summers Funeral and Cremation Center in Martinsville. A service celebrating John's life and legacy will be on Tuesday, February 17th, 2026, beginning at 11:00 AM at the funeral home. His earthly body will be cremated following the funeral service, as per John's final wishes.

Contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to the Artesian Little League, PO Box 1742, Martinsville, IN, 46151, in John's memory. If donating by check, please include his name on the check memo line.

For fifty years Johnny spoofed me and I always fell for it. It always surprised me that he had such a wicked sense of humor. I sure will miss him.
