Charlene Van Hook, age 72, passed away peacefully at her home with her husband Richard by her side on January 12, 2026, in Nine Mile Falls, Washington. She was born on May 27, 1953, in Martinsville, Indiana to the late Charles Edward and Nova Alene (Slaven) Gearing. Charlene spent her early years in Martinsville, Indiana and was a proud graduate of Martinsville High School with the Class of 1971. Charlene met the love of her life Richard Van Hook in December 1974. On December 20, 1975, the two became one and were happily married for 50 years. Building a life rooted in devotion, laughter and family together making a total of 51 years of true love. Charlene later moved with her husband and two daughters to Spokane WA in June of 1986 where she made a house a home for her family. She was a devoted wife and mother of two daughters Christina and Lori. She was a proud and loving grandmother to Ariel, Abbi, Lucie, Charlie, and Zoey, and a precious great-grandson, Weston, who brought her endless joy. She also leaves behind one brother, Jim Gearing and uncle, John Slaven and several extended family members. Family meant everything to Charlene. She loved spending time together, taking trips and creating memories that will be treasured forever. She had a deep love for people and a caring heart that made everyone feel special and loved. Charlene's legacy will forever live on through her family and the many lives she touched. Charlene Van Hook will be deeply missed and forever loved. Services were held to celebrate Charlene's life in Spokane, Washington. A private service will be held at Neal & Summers Funeral & Cremation Center in Martinsville, and she will be laid to rest with family at Greenlawn Cemetery in Martinsville, Indiana. Charlene and I worked together and I always respected her work ethic and caring. We had many experiences to share with chuckles along the way. Charlene's spirit will live on with all who knew her. She was truly a special soul.
