Michael Eugene Van Hook, 72, of Smithville, Ohio, passed away on October 30, 2025.
He was born on January 15, 1953, in Beckley, West Virginia, and was raised in Akron, Ohio. After graduating from Ellet High School, Michael proudly served his country in the United States Navy.
Following his military service, he worked alongside his father as a bricklayer in Akron before relocating to Fort Myers, Florida. There, he began a distinguished 28-year career with the Fort Myers Fire Department, where his dedication and service to others left a lasting impact on his colleagues and community.
Michael was an avid sports fan who rarely missed a Buckeyes, Browns, Guardians, or Cavaliers game. A daily listener of sports talk radio, he enjoyed discussing every trade and statistic with fellow enthusiasts. He was also a passionate golfer and spent his retirement years working at multiple golf courses in the area.
Above all, Michael valued family, friendship, and service. He will be remembered for his warmth, his giant-sized laugh, and his unwavering kindness. His devotion to his God Jehovah and his ministry was something he cherished.
Michael is survived by his beloved wife of 29 years, Collette Van Hook; daughters Amanda (Matt) Yoder, Melissa (Chris) Schmitt, Julie Stantial, and Melanie Stantial; and grandchildren Eden Boyle, Alaura Yoder, Michael Yoder, Elizabeth Yoder, and Harper Schmitt. He is also survived by his mother, Jean Van Hook; siblings Pam Van Hook, Debbie Rardin, Marsha Van Hook, Joyce Peirce, Paul Ward, and Deb Deem; and countless nieces and nephews who adored him.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Van Hook; Gill Ward; sister Robin McClain; and brother James Van Hook.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday November 15th at 2pm the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witness located at 3233 Geyers Chapel Rd in Wooster with a reception to follow at the Kidron Community Building located at 4434 Kidron Rd in Kidron.
