Loretta Cadis Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 22, 2025.
Loretta Jeanne (Schuh) "Gigi" Cadis, age 85, of Mandeville, Louisiana, passed away on December 16, 2025, after a prolonged illness, supported by her Christian faith.

Born on November 1, 1940, in Austin, Texas, Ms. Cadis was a fifth-generation Texan of German and Czechoslovakian heritage. She attended St. Austin Catholic School and graduated from St. Mary's Academy in 1958.

Throughout her life, Ms. Cadis was committed to her family and faith, meeting challenges with resilience and kindness. Recognized as a devoted mother and grandmother, she contributed significantly to those around her through service, encouragement, and her engaging personality, leaving a legacy of love and cherished memories.

Ms. Cadis was skilled in sewing and gardening and took immense pride in creating dresses and maintaining her home gardens. She enjoyed frequent visits to New Orleans, particularly the French Quarter, local festivals, and antique shops, often sharing these experiences with friends and family. Her interests included collecting antiques and books, reading Southern Living magazine, and preparing Creole cuisine, especially during holiday celebrations.

Her decision to embrace the Christian faith in 1978 had a profound impact on her life. Ms. Cadis was an active church member, regularly participating in Bible study and quietly sharing her beliefs within her community.

She also appreciated history, classic films, Scrabble, literary events, and meaningful discussions, especially with her brother. She valued her children and her faith.

The family extends appreciation to the staff of Heritage Manor Nursing Home Memory Care Unit for their dedicated care.

Ms. Cadis was preceded in death by her parents and sister. She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Carl Anthony Cadis, Sr.; four children; thirteen grandchildren; twenty-seven great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and her brother, George William Schuh.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 27, 2025, at E.J. Fielding Funeral Home Chapel in Covington, Louisiana, with visitation beginning at 9:00 a.m. Interment will occur on Monday, 29-December, at Greenwood Cemetery in New Orleans in the Edwards (Cadis) family tomb.

Ms. Cadis's memory will endure through her shared recipes, acts of kindness, and the many lives she touched. Her generosity, warmth, and strength of character remain an inspiration to all who knew her.
