Loretta Cates Obituary
The family will receive friends from 10-11 am on Tuesday, July 9th, 2024 at Hillcrest Baptist Church, 2020 Hillcrest Rd. York, SC 29745. The funeral service will begin at 11 am in the church sanctuary with Pastor Brad Vassey officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Katy was born on October 19th, 1945 in Iredell County, NC. She was the daughter of the late Clay James Childress and Edna Viola Beaver Childress and the widow of Bobby Joe Cates, Sr. She worked as a seamstress and was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church.
Katy is survived by her son, Todd Carroll (Sandra); her daughter, Genia Hamrick (Allen); her step children, Bobby Joe Cates, Jr. (Karen), Debbie Cates; her grandchildren: Mandi Lopp (Chris), Courtney English (Brian), Kristin Whitesides (Chad), Skylar Cates, and Collin Cates; and her great grandchildren: James Lopp, Kai Lopp, Carson English, Cali English, Cody English, Kinley Whitesides, Colton Whitesides, and Everlynn Whitesides. She is also survived by her brother, Ivan Childress (Helen), sisters-in-law, Shelby Childress, Diane Cates, and Nancy Eaton; and her brother-in-law, Charles Cates (Marsha).
In addition to her husband and parents, Katy was preceded in death by her brother, Gary Childress, Sr. and her granddaughter, April Hardin.
In memory of Loretta C. Cates, memorials may be made to Providence Care 500 Lakeshore Pkwy Rock Hill, SC 29730.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Mrs. Kimberly Farmer for her love and time shared with Ms. Loretta.
