Loretta McConnell Obituary

Loretta Lou McConnell

May 13, 1937 - July 12, 2024

Loretta Lou McConnell, born on May 13, 1937, in Omaha, Nebraska, peacefully passed away on Friday July 12, 2024.

After moving to Solvang in 1971 she quickly became a beloved member of the community. For 27 years, she served as the organist for Bethania Lutheran Church and played piano and organ for numerous weddings, funerals, and events. Loretta's heart was deeply connected to Solvang's rich Danish traditions, which she celebrated and cherished.

As the proud mother of four children, Lorretta's life was filled with joy and purpose. In her later years, her world revolved around her beloved grandchildren and her faithful dogs, who brought her immense happiness and companionship.

Loretta McConnell's warm spirit, musical talent, and dedication to her family and community will be fondly remembered and dearly missed.

Loretta was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry McConnell. She is survived by brothers Rod and Mike Murray, children Jeff (Melissa), Jamie, Kevin (Lori) and Shawn, and nieces Beth Murray, Linda Murray Ringbloom and nephew David Murray. She is also survived by her greatest joy, her grandchildren Marina McConnell, Danielle Sideris (Jordan), Victor McConnell, Vladimir McConnell (Abbi), Aiden Langille and great grandson Graison McConnell.

In remembrance of Loretta, the family asks that any charitable donations be made to Bethania Lutheran Church or Atterdag Village of Solvang.

Loretta, Sis, and big brother Rod, pulled around, and on Saturdays would walk a mile to see the Saturday Matinees. Two features, cartoons and newsreel would update us on W.W.II. AFTER A Roy Rogers or Gene Audrey feature, we would "gallop home hitting our behinds like whipping our horses on to our home on 54 th st in an Omaha, Nebraska. Many make believe hours of fun in , and out of the house, while mom tried to get her time on the party line. And when mom would holler at us we would give the Hitler salute and embarrasse her {she was a Zfull blooded German}, mutch to her fear of being arrest as a German sympathizer{which she was not}. Lots of shared time together through Tech High School too, in Spanish Club, and band events. Loretta, my Sis, made my life more fun, and was truly "my pal". We both have had a good life, despite the rough spots.
