Loretta Roe Obituary

Loretta E. Roe, 91, Goodland, passed away Nov. 17, 2024.

Loretta was born Aug. 20, 1933, the daughter of the late Joseph and Theresa (Manowski) Sumpter. She attended Boswell High School then married the love of her life, James ""Ed"" Roe for 70 years until his death in June 2020.

She was a member of Goodland Baptist Church where she served as the St. Jude chairperson for the bike-a-thon, the Newton County Home Economics Club where she served as a hostess and president many times, and the Red Hat Society where she was The Queen for two years. Her hobbies included sewing and competing in the women's 4-H, building, shopping, playing in the euchre-arana and bunko clubs, but most of all enjoyed visiting with her family and hosting many family weekends at the lake. As a true farmer's wife, she was her husbands ""right hand man"" making their family's house a home, preparing great meals, and even driving a truck when needed.

She is survived by her six children, James ""Jim"" Roe, Lafayette, Theresa (Time) Nicholas, Lafayette, Dale (Paula) Roe, Remington, Jane (Wayne) Hall, Kentland, Tina Roe-Elliott, West Lafayette, and Jerry (Heidi) Roe, Remington. She is also survived by her brother, Daniel Sumpter, El Centro, Calif. and special friends, Javier and Carmen Del Real. She spoiled her countless grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews that called her ""Aunt Lettie"".

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ed; two sisters; three brothers; and one granddaughter, Kenda Roe.

Upon Mom's request, please wear casual attire to the service and be comfortable. Visitation will be held from noon – 1 p.m. CST Tuesday, Nov. 26 with funeral service to follow at the funeral home. Procession to Goodland Cemetery thereafter.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Goodland Volunteer Fire Department.
