Loretta M. Syler

Loretta M. Syler (née Meitz), age 69, a cherished resident of Shelby Township, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 10, 2025, in Oakland Township, Michigan. Born on August 18, 1955, in Detroit, Michigan, she was the beloved daughter of the late Marvin Erwin and Genevieve Delphine (née Majewski) Meitz.
Loretta was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend whose life revolved around the people she loved. She married the love of her life, Joseph A. Syler Sr., on April 17, 1982, at St. John Fisher Chapel in Rochester, Michigan. Together, they built a beautiful life, sharing 41 years of marriage before Joseph's passing on February 11, 2024.
A consummate host, Loretta found joy in cooking and sharing meals with family and friends. Summers at the family cottage in Caseville were among her happiest times, where she loved spending days on the beach surrounded by loved ones. Loretta was also a passionate golfer and a proud member of Scenic Country Club alongside her husband. She enjoyed the thrill of visiting the casino and was known for her warm and generous spirit.
Loretta was the devoted parent of Joseph Syler Jr. (Bonnie) and Gretchen Reichenbach (Jimmy), and she took immense pride in her role as grandmother "Mumma" to her grandchildren: Katie Gatwood (Justin), Sarah Soring (Jonathan), Ryan Reichenbach, Vivien Christiansen, Grant Reichenbach (fiancée Cassidy), Collin Syler, John Reichenbach, Curtis Reichenbach, Julie Syler, and Kelsey Syler. She was also a beloved great-grandmother to Graham Gatwood and Grayson Gatwood.
A cherished sister to Dolores Adams (Edward), Loretta was also a loving aunt to Michael B. Adams. Her family and friends will always remember her for her kindness, her laughter, and her unwavering love.
Family and friends will gather to celebrate Loretta's life with a visitation on Tuesday, January 14, 2025 from 2-8pm with a prayer service at 6pm at the Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Home 8459 Hall Road (3 Blks E. of Van Dyke) Utica.
A funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, January 15, 2025 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church 44633 Utica Road (Btwn Van Dyke - M-59) Utica, she will be instate at church from 11am until the time of the mass at 11:30am.
Loretta will be laid to rest next to Joseph at Prestonville Cemetery, Shelby Township, Michigan.
