Loretta Wassel Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Gower Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc. - Gilbert on Jan. 26, 2026.
Loretta Wassel 89, formerly of Mountainhome, PA. passed away Friday morning January 23 while under care at Lehigh Valle Pocono Hospice House. She was the widow of Robert Wassel who died in 1994.

Born on April 8, 1936 in Shamokin Pennsylvania she was the youngest daughter of Joseph and Frances (Koyack) Osepovich. A resident of Monroe County for 62 years she recently had been living at Country Meadows in Bethlehem.

Loretta graduated from Shamokin Area High School, moved to Washington D.C. and worked as a telephone operator. There she met and eventually married her husband. They returned to Pennsylvania, first to Reading and then to Henryville.

Loretta worked in the resort industry in Monroe County in reservations at Birchwood, The Summit, and Skytop Lodge. She and her husband were also owners of Wassel Distributors, first located in Mountainhome and later in Paradise Valley.

In 1967 the family moved to Mountainhome, a village that she loved for 58 years. Independent and private, in later years she enjoyed the companionship of her dog as they would take daily walks around the many streets near her home. Loretta also volunteered at the Barrett Senior Center. An avid reader, she was a frequent visitor to the local library.

In addition to her husband, Loretta was preceded in death by her sisters Ann Baxter, Marcella Kinait, Theresa East, and Natalie Osepovich.

She is survived by her son, Robert Wassel Jr. of Skytop and daughter, Lynn Wassel of Stroudsburg.

Per her request services will be private.

Gower Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 1426 Route 209, Gilbert, PA is entrusted with her arrangements.
