MORTON – Lori Greiner Grover, 46, of Morton, passed away peacefully June 12, 2024, at Northwestern Hospital in Chicago after winning the battle against leukemia, but ultimately succumbing to complications. She was born on April 17, 1978, in Peoria, to LeRoy and Elizabeth Karen (Ross) Greiner.
Lori graduated from Morton High School in 1996, where she was an integral part of three IHSA class AA State trophies (1994, 1995, and 1996) as a four-year varsity starting short stop. She was named the 1996 Peoria Journal Star Player of the Year and was twice selected to Mid-Illini All Conference first team, the Peoria Journal Star All-Area team, the Chicago Tribune All-State team, and the IHSA All-Tournament team. When Lori graduated in 1996, she held five season softball records.
She would always say "remember your HAT" (Hard work, Attitude, Team). Lori carried this attitude into college and life.
She continued her softball career at Southern Illinois University where she started 216 of 222 games, was on the Missouri Valley Conference Scholar Athlete team in 1998 and named the Saluki Booster Club Scholar Athlete of the Year in 2000. Lori ranks 5th all-time in career doubles at SIU with 41 and 7th in single season doubles at SIU with 14.
Lori graduated from Southern Illinois University in 2000 with a bachelor's degree in computer science and began her career spanning over 20 years at General Motors. As a hard worker with problem-solving abilities, she excelled in her work in data analytics in various roles throughout her career. She also played softball for GM at Comerica Park.
Converting her swing from a bat to a club, she fell in love with golf. Excelling in this sport as well, she played in numerous tournaments with her life partner, Brian Roth, and even a former NFL player.
Known as the extrovert of the family, Lori was loved by everyone she met and maintained lifelong friendships. Much of this was due to her caring, positive attitude, brightening the day of everyone she ran across. Even while battling cancer, she was a fighter and filled with positivity and faith. She insisted her family bring in treats for the nurses because it was important they were taken care of. She also cared very deeply about animals, including her two dogs and cat.
The world has lost a lot of joy, loving, and caring in Lori's absence. She would want us all to take over for her now.
Lori was preceded in death by her mother. She is survived by her life partner, Brian Roth; Lori's father, LeRoy Greiner of Morton; brother, Mike (Sheri) Greiner of Mackinaw; sister, Jenny (Patrick) Ryan of
Monona, Iowa; nieces and nephews, Levi Greiner, Chloe (Isaiah) Proctor, Ashley (Tyler Herron) Reese, and Connor Ryan; great niece, Sophia Herron; Brian's mother and stepfather, Marilyn and Greg Hines; Brian's father and stepmother, Fred and Lisa Roth.
A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held from 1 to 4 pm on Saturday, June 29, 2024, at The Barn at Bull Run in Morton. There will be a short service at 1pm with an opportunity to share Lori's impact followed by fellowship.
Memorials may be made to T.A.P.S., Tazewell Animal Protective Society.
