Lorna June (Greenwood) Suits, 94, passed away peacefully at The Timbers of Cass County on Sunday, Jan. 25, 2026. Born on Aug. 9, 1931, in Dowagiac, Michigan, Lorna was the second of nine children born to Arthur and Verna Greenwood. After graduating from high school in 1949, she married K. David Suits, who preceded her in death in 1989. Together, they bought a cottage at Indian Lake in 1954 and turned it into a home where they raised two daughters, Janeen Rose and Karen Dee. She lived in the home for 71 years.
Lorna was a very talented person with varied interests. She was a fine seamstress, sewing many of the girl's clothes, from bridal gowns to Barbie clothes. She loved to refinish furniture and she built a large ceramic collection over the years, utilizing those skills later in life when she taught ceramics at the Cass County Council on Aging. She was a great cook, known especially for her delicious pies and her ham gravy. She was a "family historian" of sorts, putting together photo albums that were shared at the huge annual Greenwood Christmas party.
She was a loving and supporting mother and grandmother, always looking forward to the next visit by her grandkids, family members, neighbors and friends. Her thoughtfulness will be remembered by all.
Lorna participated in many card clubs and was an active member of the Red Hat Society. She helped plan many class reunions. Her true passion, however, was her extensive collection of salt and pepper shakers. She, along with her friend, Jean Rowe, traveled all over the country attending conventions and developing friendships with other collectors. Lorna enjoyed bringing them out for every holiday, especially Christmas, where her large collection of snowmen amazed her friends and family.
For many years, she worked at Sister Lakes Hardware, helping customers find the things they were looking for and advising them on the best approach for the task at hand. She also managed the U.S. Post Office located in the store.
Lorna is survived by her daughters, Janeen Stockwell and Karen (Dave) Moran; grandchildren, Bill (Melinda) Stockwell, Rebecca (Chad) Luthringer, Kelsey (Bobby) Ramsbottom, and Davey (Katie) Moran; great-grandchildren, Denver Luthringer, Gavin Luthringer, Sophia Stockwell, Maddie Stockwell, James Ramsbottom, Jake Ramsbottom, Lucy Moran, Joni Moran and Davis Moran; siblings, Virgil (Joyce) Greenwood, James "Moe" (Carolyn) Greenwood, Andrea (Jim) Klett, and Doug Greenwood, and sister-in-law, Judy (Larry) Greenwood. Lorna was preceded in death by her sisters, Mary Criswell and Diane Hatch and brothers, Larry Greenwood and Gregg Greenwood.
Memorial contributions in Lorna's name can be directed to the Cass County Council on Aging (www.casscoa.org). Visitation for Lorna will be on Friday, Feb. 6 from 10-11 a.m., with a Memorial Service to be held at 11 a.m. at Mission Hills Memorial Chapel, 61453 M-51, Niles, Michigan. Lorna will be laid to rest next to her husband, David, at Mission Hills Memorial Gardens. He has been patiently waiting for this day for the last 37 years.
