Lorotha Baumgart, daughter of the late Wesley Dray Floyd and Flora (Catoe) Floyd, was born on May 1, 1936, in Hartsville, South Carolina.
As a young girl, Lorotha grew up in Hartsville and at the age of 14 began working in sewing factories. She worked at various factories throughout her life and could sew like a dream.
Lorotha was blessed with two daughters, Melody and Vickie. She raised her girls in Hartsville and took great pride in providing for them.
On February 3, 1963, Lorotha was united in marriage to Ronald Earl Baumgart in Sumter, South Carolina. Due to Ronald being in the military, they moved to Duluth, Minnesota where he was stationed at the air base there. Ronald preceded her in death in July 1985.
In later years, Lorotha moved back to South Carolina where she remained until 2020 when she moved to Missouri to be closer to her daughter, Melody.
In her spare time, Lorotha enjoyed doing all kinds of handwork and making things for her daughters and other family members. She liked being outdoors and you could find her working in the yard, gardening, or just enjoying God's nature. She loved her family deeply and treasured all the times that they could spend together, especially the grandchildren.
Lorotha had made a profession of faith in Jesus and was baptized. While in South Carolina, she was a member of Pentecostal Holiness Church in Hartsville and after moving to Missouri, she became a member of the Family Church of Lebanon.
On Thursday, July 3, 2025, Lorotha was carried home to heaven having attained the age of 89 years. She will be sadly missed but fondly remembered by all those that knew and loved her.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her two daughters: Melody Richards of Richland, MO, and Vickie Boynton (John) of Superior, WI; four grandchildren: Torey Gulledge (Josh) of Rolla, MO, Robert Richards (Melissa) of Lebanon, MO, Kate Jackson (Gary) of Esko, MN, and Tyler Boynton (Sarah) of Duluth, MN; six great grandchildren: Charalyn, Devin, Abby, Destiny, Asa, and Tyler; three great-great grandchildren: Bentley, Kaiden, and Maybelle; sister: Louise Atkinson of Hartsville, SC; brother-in-law: Buck McEleven of Hartsville, SC; other relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents and husband, Lorotha was preceded in death by two sisters: Shelby Floyd and Eleanor McEleven; and one brother: Leslie Floyd.
Even though she is gone from our sight, Lorotha's love for the Lord and her family will live on in our hearts forever.
Celebration of Life Services will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 16, 2025, in the Lebanon Family Church in Lebanon, MO. Cremation Arrangements are under the care and direction of Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville/St. Robert.
