Lorraine Ardith Aune passed away at 93 years of age on Saturday September 20th, 2025, at
Amery, WI. She was born near Fairdale, North Dakota on March 18th, 1932, the daughter of Edward and Wilma Aune. She was raised on the farm and graduated in 1950 from Fairdale High School where she was involved in many activities including girls varsity basketball for which she was proud to display her letter.
On July 2nd, 1950, she married Paul Aune at Hitterdal Lutheran in Milton, ND and moved to the Twin Cities then later to the Amery area where she has lived since 1962. They set up their home based on their Christian faith and sought to serve God in all they did. Her personal faith in Christ was evident in her life and relationships.
Her life was characterized by her love of family and the Lord and was a testament to God's faithfulness. She showed her love for kids by teaching Sunday School for 33 straight years.
Most of her life was spent making others happy and delighting in the success of others whether academically, athletically, or musically etc, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She and Paul had many friends at Apple River Community Church and in the community and spent many happy times traveling and camping with friends after retirement.
Lorraine worked 27 years as a school cook in Amery where she used her gifts to serve others and retired from there. She had the gift of hospitality, opening her home over the years to many, even from around the world.
She was one of 10 siblings whom she dearly loved including her twin sister LaVerne with whom she had a special bond for 88 years including a double wedding where LaVerne married Paul's brother Ed.
Lorraine was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Paul to whom she was married for almost 70 years. And by siblings Walter (Clarice) Aune, Jesse Aune, Orville Dennis Aune, Melvin Aune, Laverne (Ed) Stone, Elda (Ron) Watt, Floyd Aune, and Orville Jesse Aune. Also many other dear in-laws.
She is survived by her children Ken (Cindy) of Cary, NC, Kathy (Loren) Paulson of Clear Lake, Jim (Joyce) of Clear Lake, John (Marly) of Hammond, Kris (Brad) Sauve of Spring Valley and Joanne (David) Schwartz of Kansas City, MO. Lorraine became a matriarch to a clan of 16 grandchildren: Melissa (Chip) Meyer, Brent (Jamie) Aune, Laurie (Jeremy) Lablanc, Derek Aune, Abbie (Corey) Monson, Jennifer (Chris) Coffey, Erik (Carol) Aune, Tom (Jenny) Sauve, Michelle (Adam) Evers, Jonny (Nicole) Aune, Todd (Jenny) Sauve, Heather Aune, Steven (Bitsy) Aune, Joe Schwartz, Sam Schwartz and Jason Aune and 33 great-grandchildren. Her Godly influence and example extend to three generations and her legacy goes on.
She is also survived by sister Pearl Aune, sisters in-law Elaine Aune and Judy Aune and brother-in law Oliver (Jan) Aune.
Lorraine loved everyone she met, and was loved by so many. Her memory will be a blessing forever.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, September 25, 2025, from 4:00 to 7:00pm at the Williamson-White Funeral Home in
Amery, WI. The funeral service will be at 11:00am on Friday, September 26, 2025, at the Apple River Community Church in Amery, with a visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will take place at the Balsam Lutheran Cemetery in Amery.
