Lorraine Balon Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home on Sep. 7, 2025.
Lorraine Gale Balon, 76, of Weirton, WV, passed away at her home on Thursday, September 4, 2025.

She was born on September 23, 1948, in Weirton, one of four children to the late Frank and Myrtle Ballard Lemley.

She was a graduate of Weir High School and during her senior year, she eloped with her high school sweetheart, Thomas Anthony Balon. Together, they shared 56 years of marriage until his passing on December 12, 2022. Their love and devotion built the foundation of a beautiful family, which grew to include a son, a daughter, three grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

Lorraine will be remembered as selfless, caring, and nurturing-but most of all, for the immense comfort she brought to those around her. She was happiest when her home was full, whether with friends or family. She loved cooking for others, indulging in sweets, tending to the plants around her home, savoring a hot cup of coffee, and sharing daily phone conversations with her sister Pam.
Her greatest joy in life was not only being a mother, but spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who will always remember her lovingly as "Nanny."

In addition to her parents and her husband, Lorraine was preceded in death by her son, Quint Balon; her great-grandson, Jayce Taylor; and her sisters-in-law, Rita Lemley and Judy Lemley.

She will be lovingly remembered by her daughter, Danielle Taylor; her brothers, Mark (Vicki) Lemley and Lester Lemley; her sister, Pam (Ed) Klovanich; her grandchildren, Nathan Taylor II, Montana (Tony) Todd, and Lexis (Brison) Calhoun; and her great-grandchildren, Jacquelyn Calhoun, Brison Calhoun II, and Nathan Taylor III.

Visitation will be from 4PM until 7 PM on Tuesday at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton, WV, where funeral services will be held at 11 AM on Wednesday.

Rev. Jason Elliott will preside.

She will be laid to rest with her husband at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies.
